True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1 John 4:9

What is Romance P.S.?

Romance P.S. is an entertainment blog about two of my very favorite things — movies and books.

The title actually stands for Romance with the page and screen so it's not just about romance alone but all kinds of movies and books. Though I will confess that my favorites always seem to be romances in some way ;)

Book Review: The Courtesan's Daughter by Claudia Dain

Book 1 in the Courtesan Series

BLURB: Young Lady Caroline's prospects for a suitable match are severely limited by her mother's infamous past. Before Lady Sophia Dalby entered London society, she was a highly desired courtesan. What man of title, position, and wealth would marry a courtesan's daughter?

Sophia's solution is to purchase a husband for Caroline-the Earl of Ashdon-agreeing to settle his gambling debts if he will take her daughter's hand.

Insulted, Caroline refuses to have a husband who was bought for her. But after meeting the fiery Lord Ashdon, she wonders if it wouldn't be satisfying to have him pay for her, perhaps with a priceless pearl necklace? With Sophia pulling the strings, Lord Ashdon may get more than he bargained for and Caroline may get just what she wants.

REVIEW: The series starter is about a famous courtesan who uses her famous wiles and wit in playing matchmaker for her innocent and sheltered daughter Caroline. Oddly enough this was the first book I have actually gotten to read by Miss Dain, but I can assure you it will not be the last. This book was wonderful! It has such great dialogue and play between all of the main characters and even the several of the secondary characters were very interesting (I hope we see more of them in the next one). I absolutely loved it from start to finish and read it in no time; once I started it I just couldn't stop reading. I honestly haven't had this much fun with a romance in a VERY long time.

I really love Sophia the seasoned courtesan, she is so feisty and fun it's easy to see why she was the toast of London. And when Sophia snags the handsome and enigmatic Lord Ashdon for her daughter's soon to be husband the sparks really begin to fly. Ashdon is the son of a spurned ex-lover of Sophia's who is bent on using his son as a tool of revenge against Sophia for their troubled past. And Ashdon has been told in no uncertain terms to ruin the young Caroline and by thus doing to hurt the mother through the child.

However from the moment that they meet Ash and Caro cannot deny that they are pulled toward one another by not only shared desire but could it be the very real start of love crackling in the air between them? I simply cannot wait for the second book in this series! Don't miss this fresh and extremely fun romp through romantic London it is as Sophia would say "Simply to delicious to miss!"
