True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

What is Romance P.S.?

Romance P.S. is an entertainment blog about two of my very favorite things — movies and books.

The title actually stands for Romance with the page and screen so it's not just about romance alone but all kinds of movies and books. Though I will confess that my favorites always seem to be romances in some way ;)

Movie Review: The Lucky One

Stars: Zac EfronTaylor SchillingBlythe Danner
Directed by: Scott Hicks

Blurb: U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Review: The movie is based on Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The Lucky One. It revolves around Logan Thibault a sergent in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has been through three tours in Iraq and during his last mission he and his unit are ambushed. While many of his unit didn't make it Logan does and when he finds a photograph of a young woman in the rubble outside he is enthralled by the beauty of the woman's smiling face. He tries to find the owner of the photograph, but when no one claims it he carries it with him and begins to feel that this mystery woman is his good luck charm. Upon returning home he feels that he no longer fits in with his family or anyone else. Logan is suffering badly from PTSD. His body is back from combat but his mind and emotions are still extremely raw from all that he has witnessed. After an incident with his nephew he decides it would be better for everyone involved if he left.

Logan decides to try and track down the woman in the photograph to find out more about who it belonged to and to say thank you for being his "guardian angel" and helping him make it through one of the hardest times in his life.

When he finally does find Beth he is drawn to her even more than he was her photo (which was a lot). But he can't find the words to tell her why he is really there and after she mistakens him for an applicant for the job at her families kennel he decides to take the job to get to know her better.

Beth is extremely wary of Logan at first and tries to keep her distance but her grandmother Ellie likes him from the start and sees in him a good hard working young man who just might be what her granddaughter has been needing all along.

Beth and Logan do finally start to hit it off (especially after how Beth sees how good Logan is with her young son Ben). The feelings between the two grow steadily and when they finally realize that each of them is falling in love is right when things start to hit the fan with Beth's ex-husband who is also a sherriff's deputy decides that he wants Beth back and he doesn't want Logan around his son and he makes his feelings well known to both Beth and Logan on the matter.

Can Beth and Logan make it past all the obstacles around them that seem to be working against them to finally be together. Or when Beth finally finds out how Logan really came to be in her life how will she react? There are several more twists and turns but I won't go into those because I don't want to give any of the rest of the plot away. But this movie is not to be missed by anyone that loves a good love story.

It's a great movie with two great young actors who's chemistry together is amazing. They were so convincing onscreen in fact that there were rumors for a while that the two might have been an item in real life when the cameras stopped rolling. Once you see the movie you will understand why. They really do sizzle together.

I highly recommend the Lucky One. In fact if you like romances I would say skip the rental and just go ahead and buy this one because you will definitely want to add it to your movie library.

Rated:

Some scenes of war time violence, some language, and sexual situations.
The love scenes are pretty steamy in this one. They aren't overly explicit but are hot enough
to cause some parent's to balk at their young teens watching it.
