True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Movie Review: Total Recall (2012)

Starring: Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Ethan Hawke, and Bill Nighy

Directed by: Len Wiseman

BLURB:  A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.

REVIEW:  Although this is a “remake” of the 1990 Sci Fi action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, it is not a carbon copy of that film by any means. There is no Mars in this one at all no inter-galactic angst. So if you are going into this one expecting to see just an updated version of the Arnold film you would probably be pretty disappointed. If you are just looking for an action packed, Sci Fi flick then you might be pleasantly surprised.

Colin Farrell heads up the cast as Douglas Quaid a factory worker who can’t remember his past. By all intents and purposes he should be happy with his present… he has a job, a home (all be it not a mansion by any means), he has a smoking hot wife (Kate Beckinsale) and yet Douglas just can’t shake the restlessness he feels with his mundane life.  To try to get a little action in his life and make some memories for himself literally he visits Rekall – an innovative company that promises to make your fantasies into real memories for you to enjoy.

There is a hitch of course the tech at Rekall warns Doug not to choose anything that he already is or was i.e. if you have a fantasy about cheating on your wife you can’t already have a mistress in real life or the drugs and tech could literally blow your brain because your reality and the “fantasy” would be the same. Doug chooses a superspy fantasy he is drawn to that and says that there is no way that’s really true…but ohhhh how wrong he was! When they start the Rekall things get hairy really fast as his forgotten past and his present collide in a big way! Enter all kinds of heavily armed police guns a blazing and the chase is on!

Douglas suddenly is public enemy number one it seems and running for his life. Who can he trust? Why are they chasing a factory worker? What about his past is so important that the authorities want him so badly? And how does he seem to know exactly how to fight them and beat them at their own game?

If you love a good action yarn this one should be right up your alley. My husband said that the fight sequence between Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel was worth the price of the DVD by itself. LOL!

Don’t go into expecting Arnold’s version and you should like this one pretty well. It’s not a five star by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s a good action movie for when you are in the mood for a guns, chases, and explosions kinda film.

This one can be PG-13 as the theatrical version or you can also get the Unrated Directors Cut

Lots of action and violence in either version some Sci-fi nudity. Yes they worked the three boobed woman into this one too - I think everyone knew they would.

Book Review: Highland Knight by Cindy Miles

BLURB: Bestselling mystery novelist Amelia Landry journeys to the Scottish Highlands to stay in a remote 14th-century tower, hoping to re-awaken her imagination. She finds the inspiration she seeks in the ghostly form of Laird Ethan Munro—who has spent six centuries trying to discover why he is neither alive nor dead.

Ethan senses that Amelia may be the one he has been waiting for. Only she can uncover the truth behind the curse and free his heart...

REVIEW: What do you get when you put a bestselling mystery author who has writers block in a remote 14th century reportedly haunted Scottish Tower? A whole lot of otherworldly FUN!

Novelist Amelia Landry just couldn’t seem to be able to get her muses to going so when her friend pulls an intervention on her and informs her she has booked a reputedly haunted 14th Century Scottish Tower in the rugged highlands for her for several months Amalie is excited and hopes that the mysterious and eerie tower will spark the words to start spinning for her again. What she gets was even more than she ever could have dreamed of…

From the minute Amelia arrives strange things start to occur and it’s not long before she realizes she and her cat Jack are not the only ones in the Tower! When she finally comes face to face with the “ghost” of the tower she is floored by this sexy towering Scotsman. Everything about him just makes her mouth water and as she gets to know more of the handsome Laird’s tale she finds her own heart in danger of being lost to this lost soul.

Laird Ethan Munro has been trapped in a world where he is neither living nor dead for centuries and has been waiting for someone to come along to release he and his fellow clansmen from their enchanted prison. From the moment he sees Amelia he senses that this may be the lass who can be the key to that very thing. What he didn’t plan on was falling for her and can their love survive when she is real and he is caught in the in betwixt? Will they find a way to free Ethan so they can be together or do the fates have other plans for them?

I have read the other two books by Cindy Miles and I couldn’t wait for this one to be released. Not only does it have the wonderful funny and romantic points of her previous books, but it also combines that with my love of the Scottish highlands. And it will leave you longing for the next one. Her characters are rich and have a lot of depth to them without being heavy and foreboding like you get with a lot of paranormals I find her books very refreshing and different and I mean that in the best possible way! The supporting cast is just outstanding I would love to see some of these characters return for future books I mean who wouldn’t like to see more sexy well built Scottish Knights??? So for some high-spirited Scottish paranormal fun pick up Highland Knights!

Book Review: Naked Edge by Pamela Clare

Book 4 in the I-Team Series

BLURB: What do you do when desire drives you to the very brink?

Someone wants the Native Americans off their sacred land. And when Navajo journalist Katherine James and park ranger Gabriel Rossiter team up to investigate why, their passion for the truth-and each other-makes them targets for those desperate enough to kill.

REVIEW: Naked Edge is the fourth book in Pamela Clare’s romantic suspense I-Team Series. This is Katherine James’s story most of you who have read the series remember the introduction of Kat she is quite different than the other members of Denver Independent’s illustrious I-Team and I couldn’t wait to read her story! And it surely didn’t disappoint! Kat is half white and half Navajo and was raised by her Navajo grandmother on the reservation and because of this she lives her life by a whole different set of rules than her other reporting colleges. Kat is quiet and reserved but she’s also one heck of a reporter. She is deeply devoted in her job and she’s proud that her job in journalism has allowed her to speak out and be the voice of the Native American people and their causes and rights.

The book starts out with Kat having a very bad accident while out hiking. Luckily for Kat Gabe Rossiter a Boulder Mountain Parks Ranger was out rock climbing nearby and see’s Kat’s fall and rushes to her aid. (Note this incident was actually inspired by Ms. Clare’s own climbing accident that you would have to read about to believe. It’s a miracle that she survived just like Kat and I’m sure that is why this scene is doubly haunting and thrilling you can read more about her experience on her blog)

When Gabe reaches Kat she is in very bad shape but he quickly calls for help on his cell. He talks to her and keeps her focused and awake until help arrives.

When Kat is recovered from her accident and back at work she never thought that she would see the handsome man who saved her life but little did she know that destiny has much more in store for the both of them than either of them could have ever imagined. Kat goes to attend a sweat lodge at Mesa Butte – a site that has been sacred to her people for hundreds of years when the police suddenly show up and raid the peaceful ceremony. Gabe who was on duty at the park (and Mesa Butte is part of the park lands) responds as well when he hears about the disturbance and like Kat is outraged by the raid. This sort of ceremony was a common one and had been taking place on the Butte for as long as Gabe could remember so why suddenly are the police being called to the scene. Unfortunately this is only the beginning of the trouble… several days later Grandpa Red Crow one of the leaders in the Native American community in the area is found dead at the site, and Kat is convinced that he was murdered.

She and Gabe are both drawn deeper into the quickly dangerous spiral of events that takes place and both find that they are in mortal danger. Meanwhile they are both fighting the growing attraction between them. Gabe realizes that he is quickly falling for the courageous exotic beauty but Kat is far from a player she tells him that she doesn’t date but he is even more stunned to find out that because of her culture and the way that she was raised she is a virgin! Gabe is a ladies man and always has been so he is even more convinced that even though he is attracted to Kat that he would not be good for her. But will his heart listen as easily as his mind? Or will the people that are gunning for them silence them both before they ever have the chance to find out?

I won’t say anymore because I really don’t want to give away the secrets and great plot twists in this one. But I must say that from start to finish I was completely enthralled with this one! Note to all of you if you haven’t tried this series you are MAJORLY missing out on some very good reading not only is it hot but it’s riveting! Pamela Clare is amazing in this series she has created a world that is not only breathtaking with its passion and danger but with its deep layers about humanity and reality. I couldn’t put this one down it was absolutely a page turner. And the love story between Gabe and Kat is so beautiful and at times heart-wrenching as well. And while I absolutely loved Hard Evidence and Unlawful Contact and thought they couldn’t be topped, but this one proved me wrong! I have to say I loved this one even more!

So do yourself a favor you definitely don’t want to miss this one! And though it is part of the I-Team series it works well as a stand alone as well but believe me once you try this you are going to want to run out and get the rest of the books as well! Every one of them is on my keeper shelf and this one is going there as well! :) I'm a huge fan of Pamela Clare's and have been since I picked up the first book by her trust me if you see Pamela Clare's name on the cover I guarantee you are in for a great read! :)

Book Review: The Price of Desire by Jo Goodman

BLURB: Olivia Cole is devastated to learn that her ne'er-do-well brother has promised her to the operator of a London gaming hall as payment of his debts. Olivia accepts her fate-even if it means that her reputation will suffer from living among rogues and gamblers. But when she meets the sexy and mysterious Griffin Wright-Jones, Viscount Breckenridge, Olivia has more than just her good name to worry about-for he rouses in her wanton thoughts she's never dared entertain-until now.

Griffin wears the scars of his life on his striking face. Although he wants Olivia like no other woman before, he doesn't force her to share his bed-a difficult task considering how beautiful she is. But with each passing night, Griffin and Olivia's resolve weakens until finally they take their greatest gamble on one night of reckless pleasure.

REVIEW: The Price of Desire is the story of two souls outside the realms of polite society, both have demons from their pasts that haunt them, both are looking for something more… could they each be the salvation of the other or will their budding desire be the ultimate downfall of them both?

For years Griffin Wright-Jones, the Viscount Breckenridge has owned and operated a popular gaming hell in London’s infamous and dubious Putnam Lane. It is nothing new to have a gambler go into more debt than they aught but when Alastair Cole looses his father’s heirloom emerald ring due to his enormous debt he offers something very shocking indeed as his marker to get it back… his sister.

Olivia Cole is not new to difficult times indeed her life thus far has been little else but a series of trials, some of which haunt her unrelenting in their torment. But when two burly men appear and escort her to Putnam Lane and to the door of a gaming hell she is convinced that fate has dealt her yet another dubious hand. Lined by hells and infused in the middle of the red light district Olivia fears what recompenses her brother has now brought upon himself and possibly her with his drinking and carousing. Even the handsome and mysterious Griffin Wright Jones can not still the dread that grips her from the moment she arrives. But never had she imagined that she had been handed over as a marker for his gambling debt. Hurt, betrayed, penniless and undeniably alone Olivia has no choice but to honor the debt and the marker. She agrees to stay until Alastair can raise the money and repay his debt. What she didn’t count on was the attraction that quickly grows between her and her sexy capture. She finds in Griffin a tender and caring man who is both honorable and trustworthy in spite of the business he runs there is much more to the Viscount that meets the eye. But someone is out to destroy Griffin and Olivia finds herself firmly caught in the crossfire of the dangerous villains.

Griffin can’t believe that his good fortune has brought this angel into his life. Truly the turn of the cards and something much more profound has brought her into his care. And he sees in Olivia a broken soul that he longs to mend and show that her worth is beyond measure. She brings out feelings he thought long dead and buried in himself. Yet he sees that something is holding her back even from herself. Griffin makes it his personal mission to get to the bottom of the demons that hold Olivia prisoner. More than anything he longs to give her the security and peace that has never been hers before.

Can both of their haunting pasts separate them or will they find in the other the balm that can finally ease their troubled spirits. Can love come from something that started out so twisted and wrong? And can they together overcome all the obstacles fate has placed in their path to find a life that neither of them dared hope for before?

This story is so touching on many levels both of the main characters have their own tormented pasts that they must overcome and it’s both interesting and heartwarming to behold the transformations that their budding love brings them both. It is a story of redemption, betrayal, danger, vices, forgiveness, and above all it’s a heart wrenching lesson in love. I could not put this one down from the moment I started it. I am not usually a huge fan of regencies but this is most definitely not your normal regency. Its different and I mean that in the best possible way it’s edgy and real and truly stirring where I find that many regency lack substance of either of those things. Jo Goodman is a master of her craft and it’s easy to see why she is a best seller she has the rare talent to put you in the hearts and minds of her characters to where you feel and see things through their eyes through the entire story. I have found and long believed if you see her name on a book it’s a guaranteed good read!   I highly recommend The Price of Desire it’s a keeper! And one you won’t soon forget!

Book Review: On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves

Book 1 in the Island Series

BLURB: Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher desperately in need of adventure. Worn down by the cold Chicago winters and a relationship that’s going nowhere, she jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring sixteen-year-old T.J.

T.J. Callahan has no desire to go anywhere. His cancer is in remission and he wants to get back to his normal life. But his parents are insisting he spend the summer in the Maldives catching up on all the school he missed last year.

Anna and T.J. board a private plane headed to the Callahan’s summer home, and as they fly over the Maldives’ twelve hundred islands, the unthinkable happens. Their plane crashes in shark-infested waters. They make it to shore, but soon discover that they’re stranded on an uninhabited island.

At first, their only thought is survival. But as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.’s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

REVIEW: I actually sprang for the audio book version of this one as I found it on sale and couldn’t resist when I found that I had  a little extra money to splurge with several months back. I had been eyeing this one for sometime as I have always loved the stranded on a deserted island scenario. Throw in romance with the stranded people and I’m so there! But I kept putting this one off and the reason I waited for so long was the pretty big age difference between the two main characters. Anna is 30 when the book starts and T.J. is 16 but I was so totally wrong in waiting and thinking it might be a bit icky with that big a difference in the two’s ages. And the fact that she was his summer school teacher…it just brought up a kind of eww not a forbidden love story about a teacher falling for a student. And "if that was my son I would want to snatch the woman bald headed if she so much as touched him" thought. BUT I hasten to say I was COMPLETELY wrong in my hesitancy and my assumptions about this wonderful novel. So please do NOT make my mistake and let that keep you from reading this one. I’m sorry I waited so long because I absolutely LOVED it! It's actually now on my favorite's shelf!

There are very few books that I have picked up and truly could NOT stop reading… (and in this case listening too) but that is exactly what happened to me with this one. It completely grabbed hold of me and I could not put it down until I found out what happened next!!! I had work and housework that was beckoning me and other things I needed to be doing (shamefaced blush here) but I could not pry myself away from this one. I had to literally make myself go do what I needed to do and then I would rush back to see what happened next to Anna and T.J.

Tracey Garvis Graves has penned a story that is so rich in depth, texture, action, and love that it just immerses you and you don’t want to leave the story for a minute!
I won’t go into huge detail because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone and you can get a good idea of what the book is roughly about just from the blurb-but it’s so much more than that! This is thrilling action packed tale of what two people can endure and go through to survive and the close bond that forms between people when they go through such hardship, tragedy, and isolation together.

Anna indeed starts out in the beginning as the "adult and teacher/authority figure role" when they first wash up on the island. But those roles quickly start to blur as they both have to work together to find water, food, make a shelter and survive the harsh elements, storms, the danger of predators, and just the sheer loneliness and boredom that people who are stranded on an island with hardly anything would have to do.

The two literally have only each other and they grow very close through the shared hardships, trials, and long hours alone together that they share. They are not rescued right away but spend years together alone on the island. Both of them wonder if they will ever be found or if this is where they will spend the rest of their lives.

As with any situation like this it causes T.J. to quickly grow up far beyond his years and shoulder responsibilities that mature him very quickly. However in my opinion because of his fight with cancer before he went into remission he was already well above the maturity that most teenagers are at when they are stranded. But he quickly takes over the role of the provider by fishing, gathering food and water, starting the fire, and so much more so that he and Anna can survive. And in doing so he becomes a man much faster than he ever would have in any normal situation.

They spend years together on the island and they are both lonely and have only one another for companionship. But it's easy to see that these two would have been very good friends and gotten along great even if they weren’t stranded together. They just click. After a while T.J. and Anna start to see one another in a different light not just as a student and teacher, not just as two lonely people stuck together, but as a man and a woman that get along well together and genuinely care for one another.

The love that grows between the two is both moving and touching. Nothing untoward happens between them until much later…after they have bonded though mutual trust and care that is built through the long trials they have faced together (and again this all happens over several years so it’s not like they were just bored and decided to make out. It isn’t that way at all.) Their age difference when they do finally get together does still bother Anna. She worries about what others would think if they were to be rescued and how it would affect both T.J and herself. But it does not bother T.J. that much at all. He doesn’t see Anna as his teacher or years older than himself, he sees her as the beautiful woman that he has grown to love and who has helped him survive some of the hardest times of his life.

Will they ever be rescued? Or will they spend forever on the Island? And either way can the love that they have found last?

This one truly does have it all! There are many, many twists and turns and surprises along the way and you won’t be able to tear yourself away!

Again I am so sorry that I waited so long before I read this one. I absolutely loved it and truly hated to see it end. Get this one and enjoy it! Because if you give it half a chance I know you will!

*A note about the narration since I did listen to the audio book for this one. *
The narrator is Heidi Baker and she does a spectacular job. Her narration to me actually added to the story and made it even more realistic and heartfelt, as you can actually hear the emotions of the characters through her voice. She really is a talented performer and I would love to hear more books read by her! She is one of the best narrators I have ever heard. So if you like audio books I HIGHLY recommend her rendition of this one it was fabulous!

There are several sexual scenes in the book but they aren't overly detailed. There is definitely some heat but it's on the spicier side of hot. For those that don't like every stark detail being spelled out it's not here so you should be fine. I have seen more graphic detail depicted on nightly TV story lines than happens here. If it were a movie I would range it in the PG-13 category.

Movie Review: The Amazing Spiderman 2

Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx
Directed by: Marc Webb

BLURB: We've always known that Spider-Man's most important conflict has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man.

But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that his greatest battle is about to begin. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.

With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

REVIEW: Your friendly neighborhood Spider-man is back with as much or more web slinging angst as ever in the sophomore movie of the Spider-man reboot series. Andrew Garfield reprises his role as the masked crusader and he has more thrown at him in this one than ever before. He is battling the normal street thugs of New York- the petty criminals that are always running around and then he has to deal with the appearance of The Rhino, and his friend Harry Osborne is going off the rails following in his sinister father’s footsteps…and then there is Electro. Electro is the worst of the bunch as he is definitely the most powerful villain in this one by far. He can literally suck electricity from any source around him and direct it wherever he likes. So Spidey more than has his hands full for sure!

His alter ego Peter Parker hasn’t had it easy either as he has been struggling big time with hiding his superhero identity from Aunt Mae. And he has been tormented with the promise that he made to Gwen Stacey’s father. In the first movie he promised a dying Captain Stacey that he would stay away from Gwen to keep her safe from those that would come after Spider-man and use her to get to him. But he can’t fight the draw between himself and the beautiful Gwen and their relationship continues to grow. (You can definitely see the real chemistry between Garfield and Stone as they are now boyfriend and girlfriend in real life as well. It definitely shows in their scenes together onscreen they make a really cute couple!)

We also get more about Peter's father’s back story than we did in the first film. It turns out he has a lot more involvement with the experiments at Oscorp that led to his son becoming Spider-man years later than Peter ever imagined.

With multiple enemies out to squish Spider-man, and all the problems weighing on him as Peter can he overcome the overwhelming odds and protect NY and those closest to him? Or will the endgame take from him what means the most to him and destroy him forever?

I really enjoyed this one. It's not my favorite but it's a good superhero/action flick that the whole family can enjoy. I think Garfield does a great job as the nerdy Peter and his alter ego Spidey. I thought it was just as good as the first one, if not a little bit better. There is a lot of action, drama, and yes even romance so there is something for everyone. My 15 year old son really liked it as well. There is a lot of the normal superhero vs. villian violence but it's nothing that you can't really see worse of on regular nightly TV now a days I don't think.

The only thing I really didn’t like about it was Jamie Foxx he plays Electro. I’m not a fan of his and wish they had gotten someone else to play him, but you can’t have everything right and since he is cast as one of the villain's he isn't glorified in this one at all.
Spider-man hits DVD and Blu-ray on August 19th! I will for sure be adding this one to our DVD collection. Click on the link below to get your copy too!

Book Review: The Undead Next Door by Kerrelyn Sparks

Book 4 in the Love at Stake Series

BLURB:  Three signs that something is very different with your new man:

1. He sleeps all day…which would be annoying except he’s so attentive at night.

2. He’s attacked by sword-wielding assailants, yet insists he can handle it on his own.

3. He never seems to age.

Heather Westfield has always lived a quiet life, but that all changes when she helps a very handsome, very mysterious stranger. There’s something not quite right about Jean-Luc, but still, she’s never been with a man so charming, so attractive…so wonderful. Now if only a murderous villain wasn’t after them, they might get their happily-ever-after.

REVIEW: This is the fourth book in Kerrelyn Sparks' Love at Stake series. This one stars Jean-Luc Escarpe if you have read the others as I have then I'm sure you were looking forward to his story as much as I was. And you won't be sorry it was well worth the wait. Jean Luc is a legend in the world of high fashion. For years he has designed clothing that has been worn by the best the world over including Hollywood legends. But now it seems that questions are increasingly arising as to why Jean Luc seems to not be aging over the years. Though many speculations from numerous facelifts an cosmetic surgeries have bought him time over the years it has come to his attention that it's time to drop out of the spotlight for a time and let the questions about his ageless face die down. What better place to hide out than a little town in the middle of nowhere in Texas. No one would think to look for him there right? WRONG

Heather Westfield is just your average good ol Texas girl. She's never been to Paris and the closest that she's likely to get is attending the Grand Opening of a big wig fashion designer's new store with a friend of hers that's now a model. Why on earth a major player in the design world would want to open a store in the middle of Texas Hill Country is nothing short of baffling. But when she inadvertently bumps horns with a tall sexy French stranger at the party little does she know that it's none other than Jean-Luc himself.

From the first the first moment he saw her he knew she was something out of the ordinary. But when an age-old enemy of Jean's attacks them both suddenly everything is anything but quiet in Texas. Lui an age old adversary and a merciless killer mistakes Heather for Jean-Luc's latest love interest. And now Jean-Luc is honor bound to protect Heather from the blood thirsty Lui. But as they begin to fall for each other can he hope that this beautiful mortal will be able to accept the shocking truth of what he is and love him despite all of it? Or is he destined to see history repeat itself yet again, and loose her to the deadly feud that started so long ago.

You do not want to miss this exciting, funny, and sexy adventure. I have never yet read a book of Kerrelyn Sparks that I haven't loved, and that includes this latest installment. Nor have I read one that hasn't made me laugh out loud so many times as well as heat the blood with it's sexy storylines. Plus you get to see the well-loved characters again from her previous books in the series, which is always a treat! Mrs. Sparks is truly a master at weaving romance with humor laced throughout, that you will not soon forget, and leave you dying for the next one! I highly recommend this one for anyone who loves a good vampire romance, and if you like a little fun and laughter (she has a great sense of humor) as well any of her books are the perfect mix of both! And as before this one left me dying to see what she comes up with next!

Book Review: The Accidental Lawman by Jill Marie Landis

BLURB: Not five minutes in a one-horse Texas town, and Hank Larson foils a bank robbery. No matter that one of the bandits tripped right over Hank's dusty boots. Suddenly, the newcomer is hailed a hero and anointed sheriff. Hank came to Glory to report crime in the newspaper—not stop it himself. But everyone thinks the Lord led him there to save the day. Everyone except the town's beautiful healer, Amelia Hawthorne. The robber who got away was her nineteen-year-old brother. And it's Hank's job to bring the guy in.

Hank knows all about losing family. And he slowly sets about restoring Amelia's shaky faith. But doing what's right might mean breaking her heart… and his own.

REVIEW: I have long been a fan of Jill Marie Landis and her writing and every time I pick up one of her novels it’s easy to see why. Jill is a master storyteller when you turn the pages you are immersed in the characters lives and the dramatic and romantic plots that she creates. In my humble opinion she is truly one of the best authors out there. And while she has been a name in the romance genre for years... and with this second book in her inspirational romance novels she has proven that she is just as adept in this genre as well.

Hank Larson is a man that is looking to start his life over. After picking the small community of Glory from a map he travels there hoping that starting up his newspaper there will be the realization of his dream and a much needed change. For Hank is a man who’s past has been filled with tragedy and heartache, and a change is very much what he needs. But little did he know that the “sleepy” little town of Glory would have much more in store for him that he ever imagined. He isn’t even unpacked yet and a trip to the bank lands him right in the middle of a robbery! Hank manages to subdue the robber and unwittingly is turned into the town hero and the towns people offer him (and some downright push) the title of sheriff on the new newspaperman. Even though Hank doesn’t want the position of Sheriff he agrees to stand in as one until a replacement can quickly be found.

And he also is blindsided by the proper and beautiful lady who was in the bank with him at the time of the robbery…

Miss Amelia Hawthorne is the town apothecary and unofficial town doctor. She’s also very strong in her faith in God. She is in all things proper but from the moment she lays eyes on the handsome new man in town her heart seems to have a mind of its own. Amelia has faced many trials in her life, as an assistant to her  Father on the battlefields during the civil war, the death of both her beloved parents, and many sicknesses and hard times as the head of her household, but God and her strong faith have seen her through them all.

But life and her faith are about to be tested as never before when she finds out that her little brother (whom see raised since the death of their mother) has fallen in with a very bad gang and just might have had a hand in the robbery!  Amelia prays that she can make her brother see the light before it’s too late, but has he already gone to far…

All the while circumstances seem to keep pulling Amelia and Hank together and both of them start to have feelings that neither of them thought they would ever have again…

Could God be pulling these two people together? Is Amelia the woman that can heal Hank’s shattered heart? Or will a series of tragic events push the two apart forever? And can Amelia who has always been grounded by her faith overcome her own heartbreak and doubt when her faith is tried more than ever before?

This is a wonderful and very thought provoking heartfelt story. The main characters and the trials that they face both together and on their own are riveting. Jill Marie Landis has made a cast of characters that tugs at the heartstrings and makes the heart soar with the Godly messages and faith weaving them all together. This is one series not to miss. And if you read her previous release Homecoming you will love seeing the main characters from that novel making a return in this one as secondary characters! If you love great historical romance you’ll love this one!

Completely clean just sweet kissing nothing heavy at all.
