True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Book Review: Secrets of Surrender by Madeline Hunter

Book 3 in the Rothwell Series

BLURB:

First he’ll learn her most intimate secrets. Then he’ll arouse her deepest passions. He’s the lover she’s been waiting for: the man who can rescue her from her wicked past–for a price–in Madeline Hunter’s tale of sin, seduction, and irresistible, impossible love.

He catches her eye across the dining room–a handsome stranger who stands out among the lewd noblemen and bawdy painted women. But their worlds are about to collide in a way Roselyn Longworth could never have imagined. For before the night is out, she will be auctioned off to the highest bidder…and Kyle Bradwell will lead her from one kind of hell to another. Yet from the moment he wins her, Kyle treats Rose with a gentleness she hasn’t known since a family scandal destroyed her reputation. And when she finally learns what is really driving Kyle, it’s too late. For Rose has fallen for the man who knows her most intimate secrets. Now he has stunned her with a proposal of marriage–the first step in a seduction that will demand nothing less than her complete surrender.…

REVIEW:

Roselyn Longworth never imagined her life would turn out like this, once a very sought after lady, she finds herself a fallen woman and about be auctioned off to the highest bidder by the man she thought she loved. Kyle Bradwell is appalled by the treatment of the beautiful woman by a room full of supposed "gentlemen". He spends a small fortune to win her to keep the low lifes from having her and inflicting an even worse hell upon her than has already been done. Yet he is not prepared for the strong emotions that the brave and beautiful woman evokes with a mere touch of her hand. He knows of her family's ruin at the hands of her older brother and the crimes that he had done. But he envisions a way that might be able to salvage her reputation and advance his own position. (He is the son of collier and even though he has become a renowned builder he is still seen as of a lower class.) But could this union of convenience turn into a match made in heaven for them both?

From the first time their lips touch a fire is ignited within them both. One fallen woman in need of salvation and one lonely good hearted man who is looked down upon because of his birth. And Rose quickly finds in Kyle much more than the kindly protector that she thought to have, she finds true passion and a depth of emotion that she never dreamed possible. Could these two find the salvation and their true place in life in the arms of each other? Or will the sins of the past and some well-kept secrets be more than their new and fragile love can bear?

This is a beautifully written and entertaining novel. Madeline Hunter is always a delight but here she has created two characters that both touch the heart and soul. Rose and Kyle are both lost souls in their own right. But together they make the other whole and in a society that loves to look down their noses upon others they together can weather the storms and slings and arrows that are thrown their way.

I am not a huge fan of Regency novels but this one is not your normal regency there is much more here than fashion and frippery Madeline Hunter has dug in and gotten down to the very heart of what makes any good story worth reading she has created two characters that you share in their heartaches dip into their souls and emotions, and that you long to see win in the end and find their happily ever after. BRAVO!
