True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Movie Review: Xmen Origins Wolverine

Stars: Hugh JackmanLiev SchreiberLynn CollinsTaylor Kitsch, and Ryan Reynolds

Movie Blurb: Two mutant brothers, Logan and Victor, born 200 years ago, suffer childhood trauma and have only each other to depend on. The two become life long soldiers fighting in war after war through U.S. history. In modern times, a U.S. colonel, Stryker, recruits them and other mutants for an elite team for what turns out to be questionable purposes. Logan quits leaving it all behind for the quiet peaceful life of a logger in Canada, where he falls in love with a local school teacher. But Stryker isn't through with the Wolverine yet and when Logan refuses to rejoin Stryker's crew, the colonel sends the murderous Victor after him to bring him back.

Review: Here is what many fans including myself had been waiting for the chance to find out the back story of Logan a.k.a Wolverine. So many questions were left open in the first three Xmen movies about Wolverine and how he became what he was. And since he is suffering from amnesia and could remember nothing about his past but painful flashbacks, most fans (who again like me) weren't avid followers of the comics had many more questions about his character than we had answers regarding his very elusive past. This movie will fill in pretty much all of the blanks for you. We follow Logan from being a very young boy through adulthood and all the through the circumstances that lead to him becomine involved with the Weapon X program and how he became the Wolverine with that seemingly indestructible Adamantium skeleton.

We also get to see several of the relationships that majorly shape his life throughout the movie. Victor a.k.a Sabertooth...and just how close they were only to become bitter enemys later in well as several other characters that we come to know better in later movies too (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Gambit, and Charles Xavier all make an appearance).

I won't go into a lot of detail about what happens, because in doing so I would ruin parts of the movie for those that haven't gotten to see this one yet. But I personally loved this movie. In fact it just might be my favorite Xmen movie so far. I know that for some reason a lot of Xmen fans had very negative reviews for this one and I personally can't see one reason why. The story to me was very well written, the acting by all actors was superb, and it laid the very firm ground work for why Wolverine is the way he is. Maybe it had something to do with the comic books and the way the backstory was done in them I don't know. Although I am an Xmen fan I hasten to say that I am a fan of the movies and the Xmen cartoon that came on back in the 80's. I am not nor have I ever been a fan of the comics themselves, so maybe some of the rabid comic fans took acception to the movie conficting with things in the comics. I know some do that no matter what the movie so maybe that was the reason why some hated this one. That is the only thing I can think of why some didn't like the film.

Hugh Jackman was simply outstanding, and yes he is outrageously handsome in this one ladies. He to me IS Wolverine now. He has become the complete embodiment of the character and I can't imagine another actor playing him at this point. He is perfect in the action sequences, tender in the scenes with Kayla, and perfect as the pained anti-hero we have all come to love. Don't think of this as some corny comic book flick it's much deeper than that. It's a very good action packed movie that the whole family from pre-teens and up will enjoy.

Several kisses. Logan and Kayla are shown in bed together but nothing happens accept talking.

Movie Review: Ben Hur (1959)

Stars: Charlton Heston, Stephen BoydJack HawkinsHugh Griffith and Haya Harareet
Directed by: William Wyler

Movie Blurb: A rich Jewish prince Judah Ben-Hur is betrayed and framed by a friend since childhood, for a crime and sold into slavery to the Romans. He escapes and seeks revenge for himself and his family in this classic Oscar winning Biblical epic.

Review: Ben Hur is one of Hollywood's biggest Historical/Biblical epics and is arguably one of the best films ever made. It was the winner of 11 Academy Awards including best picture, actor, director. A feat that would not be repeated until 1997 with Titanic and 2003 by The Lord of The Rings: Return of the King. It follows the life of a Jewish Prince Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) who seems to have the world by the horns and everything going for him until one of his oldest childhood friends Messala (Stephen Boyd) returns to Judea as the new Roman Tribune. Messala has been ordered to help squash the jewish resistance and asks Judah for his help in convincing the Jews to not resist Roman rule and to spying for him. Judah is outraged and flatly refuses to betray his people even for the friend he loves like a brother. Messala is extremely angry and when an accident occurs that puts Judah and his family in jeopardy Messala refuses to help Judah and in fact betrays both him and his mother and sister condemning them to imprisonment even though he knows they are innocent. Judah vows that he will return and see justice and vengence for this wrong done to his family. Through a series of events after 4 long years rowing in the Roman Galleys Judah wins his freedom and his heart burns for retribution against Messala. Among the great parts of this movie is an extraordinary performance by Heston, the epic and legendary Chariot race, and enterwoven throughout the story Judah encounters Christ several times. Judah's life and those around him are forever changed by the encounters with Christ.

I have seen this film several times over the years and each time that I have seen it the more profound it's message rang with me. Ben Hur is truly one of the classics and for good reason it has it all action, adventure, betrayal, love, and hope. It's a must see in my humble opinion be sure to get it for your movie collection.

Before I end this review I wanted to share a few interesting facts about the movie that I found out. The woman who plays Heston's mother Miriam in this one is Martha Scott. She also played his real mother Yochabel  in The Ten Commandments.

Ben Hur never shows Christ's face through the entire movie we always see him from a distance or behind where his face cannot be seen. The reason for this was Wyler wanted it to be "revent but realist" and thought that by not showing his face but to show rather the other people's reactions to Jesus was much more profound. And in actuality it worked in this film because the viewer is struck by how people react to Christ but also they are allowed to see him in their mind's eye the way that they perceived him to look and not the way that Hollywood portrayed him to appear. But if you are curious like me...I wanted to know what the man that played Jesus in it looked like and I did a little searching around and I found several photos of him from the set as Jesus. The actors name was Claude Heater he wasn't even credited in the movie. Here is what he looked like as Jesus pictured here with director William Wyler.

One last fun fact...One notable change in the film involved the opening titles. Concerned that a roaring Leo the Lion (the MGM mascot) would create the wrong mood for the sensitive and sacred nativity scene, Wyler received permission to replace the traditional logo with one in which Leo the Lion is quiet. It was the first time in MGM history that the lion logo was not seen roaring.

My favorite scene from Ben Hur...

A couple of very chaste classic movie kisses.
Squeeky clean you can see worse on TV commercials now a days.

Book Review: Primal Instincts by Susan Sizemore

Book 9 in the Prime Series

BLURB: New York Times bestselling author Susan Sizemore draws you into a dazzling world of seductive vampires and unquenchable cravings . . .

Tobias Strahan leads the elite vampire squad known as the Dark Angels, protecting the city’s paranormal denizens. It’s the perfect job for an übermacho Prime . . . until clan heiress Flare Reynard stirs an obsession in him that refuses to fade. Flare’s mother—desperate for a grandchild—has made Tobias an intriguing proposition, and it’s soon clear to Tobias that Flare is nothing like the spoiled princess he’d assumed her to be. She’s smart as hell, wickedly funny, and loyal, and Tobias knows deep within that she is his bondmate—the bondmate every Prime searches for.

Flare has every intention of providing her clan with children—but on her own terms. That means a donor and a clinic, not a wild tumble with the most potent Prime of them all. Flare knows it’s a mistake to get close to a warrior like Tobias, since their searing connection puts her heart, his loved ones, their entire world at risk. But logic is no match for fierce, instinctive desire. . . .

REVIEW: Tobias Strahan is the Prime in charge of the elite team of vampires known as the Dark Angels. They are charged with the task of protecting and keeping the peace in the paranormal community. But he may have just received his toughest mission yet and it has nothing to do with battling any rogue werewolves or vampires it will be a test of this warrior’s heart!

Francesca “Flare” Reynard knows her responsibilities and she fully intends to supply her people with the offspring to help keep their dwindling numbers stronger. But she wants it to be done on her terms, which are a clinic and a sperm donor not mating with anyone… and therefore not bringing her heart into play in the process. But her heart and her world are about to be tipped on their axis when her mother who is a clan Matris gets involved and proposed that Tobias be the father of her grandchildren!

Tobias and Flare can’t deny that there are sparks a plenty flying between them but both of them have pasts and preconceived notions that tell them that they couldn’t possibly be compatible let alone Bondmates! The closer they get however the more the walls come tumbling down around their well guarded hearts. There is also danger a plenty as well that Tobias and the Dark Angels have to get to the bottom of however the main plot of this one is that of the relationship between Flare and Tobias.

While this was an ok read I found that it was only that and not up to the standards of the past Prime novels that I have read before this one. I am not certain exactly how to best describe the difference or what it is that is missing from this one but it fell short of the stellar novels that Sizemore had penned before it. Flare was portrayed as the aristocratic ice queen and Tobias as the warrior who has to try to see past her outer icy persona to the real person within. While the book did have it’s moments it just didn’t leave me hanging to the pages like the others have. I can't put my finger on exactly the reason why, maybe it is that this is book 9 in the series - all I do know is that it seemed that some of the spark that has been in the other novels just was not present here. I am sure that fans of the Primes series will still want to read it and enjoy it as part of the series but it is definitely not the stand out book of the series.

Book Review: Full Tilt by Janet Evanovich
and Charlotte Hughes

Book 2 in the Full Series
If you're a fan of Ms. Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series like me then you will probably enjoy the Full series as well. Full Tilt is book two in the series and focuses on Jamie Swift who runs a small local newspaper in Beaumont, South Carolina.

On the other side of the axis is Maximillian Holt and his name pretty much says it all accept he's closer to a billionaire than a millionaire the plain fact is he's loaded! And he's also a silent partner in the newspaper and when he comes to town things move from sleepy to full tilt rather fast with not only a hail of bullets, missing tax money, two assassins, and a talking car named Muffin! (That's right Knight Rider move over Kit! Muffin is on the job.)

While you can see some of the famous humor and wit that makes the Plum series novels so popular, there is still something lacking from the mix here. And while it is a good fun read, just be sure that when you pick this up you're not thinking it will be too much like the Plum books because if you do that then you could be disappointed by the Full series.

He lives life in the fast lane and she's along for the ride--with no brakes....

Jamie Swift has one priority in quiet Beaumont, South Carolina: running the local newspaper. Romance runs second. But with the arrival of her silent partner, the notoriously mysterious and sexy Maximillian Holt, Jamie's life gets shaken up. Max claims he's here to give his brother-in-law a vote of confidence. A former wrestler, Frankie Fontana's now taking his shots in the political ring. Beaumont could use a mayor with scruples, but what it gets is a crime-and what Jamie gets is a story that's taking her for a ride on the wild side, complete with two assassins, a washed-up stripper, and an insane poacher. Between a spray of bullets and a fast getaway could it get any more romantic-or dangerous? Max and Jamie are betting their lives on a long shot

Book Review: Ravished by a Highlander
by Paula Quinn

Book 1 in the Children of the Mist Series

Ravished by a Highlander is book one in Paula Quinn’s new Children of the Mist Series. Davina Montgomery is a woman in dire straights. In the space of one day her entire world has been destroyed around her. But through the mists of chaos and destruction- love appears.

The only life Davina has ever known has been inside the walls of St. Christopher’s Abbey. But not for the reasons you might think…Davina is there to protect her from her enemies, for if they knew where she were they would have long since have ended her life. Davina carries a very dangerous secret…her very identity is the Crown’s most guarded secret. And when the Abbey is attacked and all the inhabitants mercilessly slaughtered it was only by a miracle that Davina survived, and this particular miracle came in the form of one sexy highland warrior!

Robert MacGregor was on his way to England to attend the Coronation ceremonies of the newly crowned King James when he happens upon St. Christopher’s Abbey. However it is not the peaceful sight of serenity and prayer that it should be, but a battlefield that meets his eyes. When one of the soldiers fighting in the battle begs Rob’s help to save the Lady Montgomery from a fiery death inside the Abbey - Rob is honor bound to see that the Lady escapes unscathed. He never expected that the beautiful innocent lass that he pulls from the ashes would end up firing his blood as hot as the flames that he pulled her from.

Davina is heartbroken at the loss of all of the nuns and soldiers who guarded her, for they were the only true family she has ever known. Rob is deeply moved by her trials, but he is drawn to her also in a way that he has never been drawn to another woman ever before. The longer the two are in each other’s company the closer they become and the more passion begins to grow between them. However the enemies that were searching for Davina have not given up and they will not stop at nothing until she is dead. Can Rob save her from the dark forces that are bound to see Davina and her closely guarded secret to the grave? Is there a chance for their budding love to be realized or will the secrets that Davina harbors keep them forever apart? Believe me you will want to read this one to find out the answers!

I really loved this story it has it all - intrigue, desire, love, duty, and faith, much more all rolled into one. Paula Quinn has penned a story rich in drama and the things that make us human beings, with our passions, triumphs and our faults, our secrets, and our ties to those people and things we hold dear in this life. And for those of you who are fans of Ms. Quinn’s novels will see some familiar faces show up as well from her earlier novels Laird of the Mist and A Highlander Never Surrenders as well! :)

I fell in love right along with Rob and Davina and I loved watching how their story and love unfolded. Those of you that know me know that I love a good Scottish story and this is truly one of those with just a little of the Tudors vibe thrown in there for good measure! This is truly a great read and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2 in the series! Get your copy today and see what I mean you will be glad you did! :)

Davina Montgomery is no ordinary English lady. For her own protection, she's been locked away from society, her true identity the Crown's most closely guarded secret. Until a shocking betrayal--and a bold rescue--land her in the arms of a fierce Highlander, a powerful warrior whose searing gaze and tantalizing touch awaken her body and soul.

As the firstborn son of a powerful Scottish laird, Robert MacGregor has no loyalty to the English throne, but he's not the kind of man to leave a woman in distress, even if she is English. He vows to deliver Davina to safety, unharmed and untouched. Yet one stolen kiss leaves them both smoldering with desire...and desperate for more. With Davina's secret threatening to destroy his clan, Rob must choose between everything he holds dear and the one woman he can't live without.

Book Review: Wild Instinct by Sarah McCarty

Book 2 in the Wild Series

I absolutely loved her first book in the series Running Wild as you saw with my glowing review but was wondering if this second one could live up to the drama and tender passion that was in the first one… and much to my pleasure it did! I am fast learning that anytime you see Sarah McCarty’s name you are in for a fabulous read no matter the genre.

This one starts off right where Running Wild left off (and while you wouldn’t have to read the first to like this one I believe it would make it much more enjoyable and some elements of the story will make more sense if you do). The fledgling sanctioned pack of Haven headed by now Alpha Wyatt Carmichael is finally getting off the ground. But the transition for the newly formed pack even with its legendary Protectors - Donovan and Kelon McGown has been anything but simple. Wyatt wants Haven to be just what its name implies for weres not only of full blood but also half bloods and outcasts from normal were pack society i.e. those with special powers and gifts telepaths, empaths and the like that normal packs view as dangerous and are either banished or killed because of their strange abilities. In doing so Wyatt has issued protection and pack status to a half blood werewolf Sarah Anne and her two children who are her’s by her late human husband (in other regular traditional packs they would be shunned because of this or even killed). Sarah Anne has been running for her life from a group of rogue werewolves along with her children and two of her closest friends another were with special powers Rachel and Teri a human who has been raped by the evil rogues that are chasing them and is pregnant as a result of that attack.

The heroes in this one are two half blood werewolves – Garrett (who also harbors special powers) and his longtime friend Curran and a very powerful and scarred ancient werewolf Daire who has many powers that most weres would never dream possible. These three are about to find their mates in the most unlikely of circumstances and people in the three women they are sent to find and bring safely back to Haven. This one has it all action, romance, tenderness, vengeance, hot erotic love scenes, and much, much more. I found myself on the edge of my seat several times and in tears yet again! She sure knows how to tug at the heart strings! All of the stories were wonderful but I found the story of Teri and Daire to be just amazing. Both have had such a hard life and have suffered so much to see them find their solace and true love finally in each others arms just made my heart melt!

Sarah McCarty is a master at her craft that’s all I can say she writes stories that draw you in to the point that you feel the characters emotions right along with them and you can’t wait to find out what happens on the next page because unlike some you never know what she is going to do next. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book and again even though it is an anthology you get to care so deeply for the characters even though they are not in their own full length novel. She definitely has penned the best two anthologies I’ve ever read in these two books.

I sincerely hope there are more books coming in this series and I’ll be first in line for them if there is. I’m also on a mission to find all the rest of Ms. McCarty’s books that I don’t have as of yet. I can’t wait to read more from her she is nothing short of amazing.

Three all-new stories of erotic animal attraction-from the national bestselling author of Running Wild

Three desperate women-hunted and on the run- bring out the animal instincts in the irresistible males who promise them more than just rescue.

Garrett-Rejected by his fellow werewolves, he never expects to find his mate in the midst of his mission. And as the heat rises between them, so do the risks.

Daire-He rejected the strict rules of werewolf society, only to fall in love with the one woman who's been taught to fear the beast within him.

Curran-His job is to find a fugitive were-woman and bring her in. Trapping has never been a problem, but he's never fallen in love with his bounty before.

Book Review: Running Wild by Sarah McCarty

Book 1 in the Wild Series

Running Wild is a three story anthology from author Sarah McCarty that takes on a new genre than most of her previous novels… the world of the paranormal, werewolves to be exact. Now I am a big fan of Sarah McCarty’s I have been ever since I read the first of her Promise’s Series (which is fabulous by the way) and I have to say I’m only a bigger fan of her writing now! I tell you from the start of this one I couldn’t put it down.

The three stars of this book are Donovan & Kelon McGowan and Wyatt Carmichael all three are werewolves and all three have longed to find their one true mate ,- the one woman who can fill the other half of their soul and make them complete in every way. But in a world where werewolves and human connections are forbidden can their newly found love thrive or even survive?

Wyatt is the local sheriff of the sleepy little town of Haven, Montana and Donovan (a Protector of the pack that they all belong too and also Wyatt's cousin)comes to visit Wyatt with news that he has to return to the pack as his father who is the leader of their pack is dying and Wyatt must in turn take is rightful place of Alpha and leader of the pack. Donovan didn’t expect to find the woman he had been searching for all his life (Lisa Delaney) to suddenly walk into the town’s sole entertainment venue (a combination bowling alley/bar/ pool hall) where he and Wyatt were talking… and he expected even less that the first thing that he would see her do would be to proceed to beat the living daylights out of a big man who wronged her sister with a pool cue! Donovan immediately comes to her aid when some of the man’s buddies appear to be turning far to interested in the proceedings and in Lisa. He knew from the moment that he saw her though that she was the one, the one that would be his mate his other half for the rest of his life and in the next. Now he just has to convince her of that fact, and keep her safe from Buddy (the jerk who misused her sister) and his less than stand up friends. But things go from bad to worse when someone tries to run Lisa and Donovan off the side of a cliff on the icy roads. Donovan is severely injured in the accident, but with his being wolf he quickly heals before Lisa’s very eyes. Can she accept what she has seen and even more can she overcome her shock and their differences enough to let their budding love grow? Or will the thugs who have been after Lisa and her sister Robin make good on their threats and destroy them all before they get the chance?

Kelon arrives in town when Wyatt has to return to their pack to see about his Father the pack. He was summoned by Donovan and Wyatt to help protect and defend Lisa and her very ailing sister Robin from the threats on their lives.

Kelon is Donovan’s brother and he has lived a long and stoic life. Donovan has long worried over his brother’s increasingly evasive and icy attitudes toward life in many ways. But all of that seems to change as soon as Kelon sets eyes on Robin Delaney! This fragile beauty immediate captures his heart and he knows as soon as he sees her that he has found his mate in her. But Robin is very gravely ill after having her second kidney transplant and she is showing signs yet again of rejection of the transplanted organ. Kelon can’t believe that he has found her only to learn that she is dying. Robin is resolved to her fate and has accepted it but Kelon is bound and determined to help her see that she has everything to fight and live and chief among those things is love… Meanwhile more things start to occur that point to their being an even more dangerous foe and possibly another even more dangerous threat to the Delaney sisters than just the local troublemakers that they thought were the problem. When Kelon finds clues that someone has been watching the house with more than just a camera (a high powered rifle he is sure) the wolf inside him roars even more to get to the bottom of the threat that could take the life of not only his new found love but her sister Lisa as well. Robin’s health continues to deteriorate and the third Delaney sister shows up to check on her and to see what she can do to help her sister. Heather Delaney is not only their older sister who has taken care of both Lisa and Robin since their parents deaths when she was 18 but she’s also an emergency room nurse and she knows better than anyone just what is coming with Robin’s condition.

Even more trouble comes to the fore when Kelon and Donovan can’t get a hold of Wyatt to see how things are going with the pack and they fear the worst might have happened as they know that he will be facing constant challenges by other males of the pack for supremacy (and those challenges are just mere fist fights wolves fight to the death in a challenge of power). So against all odds Lisa and Robin insist that they go and check on Wyatt and they are determined to go along for the ride and where they go so does Heather… and from the moment that she meets Wyatt Carmichael she knows that her life will never be the same. Wyatt and Heather are immediately drawn together but as the danger and challenges mount by the hour Wyatt is disheartened to think that he has finally found his one true mate only to have to wait to claim her for fear of not only leaving her a widow very early, but putting her own life in mortal danger as well. I won’t give away anymore of the secrets but this surely shows you how action packed and thrilling this book truly is not only as a romance but as a riveting adventure as well.

I absolutely LOVED this book. As I said I couldn’t put it down from the start which I admit is highly unusual for me with anthologies, I find with many anthologies that the stories are often just not developed enough in the small amount of each story to get very involved with the characters as you can on a full sized novel but not so here! Not only does she prove here that she is a stellar historical romance author but she has proven that she can build intricate new worlds of danger, romance, and wild hot Alpha heroes in the paranormal field as well! But these Alpha males turn into absolute gentle giants within the arms of their lady loves. And Sarah McCarty continues to amaze me with the depth of emotion and breathtaking situations that she creates. I cried several times in this one which is another unusual for me. I might get tears in my eyes sometimes but rarely do I have the tears roll freely and they did several different times in this one. The story of Robin and Kelon just had me in awe truly … I was in love right along with them. Ms. McCarty broke my heart and put it back together counts times with this one and managed to make me love every second of it. Beautiful, exciting, heatbreaking, and so hot it will set your fingers on fire - this one is a total keeper and I can’t wait to dive into book two in this series!

Three stories of sensual erotic romance. Three werewolves who feed a wild hunger…

Donovan must bring the Pack Alpha home and nothing more. But when he catches the sexy scent of Lisa Delaney, he's hers, body and soul and ready to risk both on an erotic desire that will shatter all boundaries.

Kelon intends to return to his pack after helping Donovan, but he never counted on the voluptuous distraction of Robin Delaney. She's the one woman who can make him contemplate a choice no werewolf should have to make.

Wyatt can't afford to be attracted to the practical, completely human Heather Delaney. But she isn't a woman a man ignores no matter what the cost

Book Review: Never Love A Law Man by Jo Goodman

Book one in the Reidsville Series

Never Love a Lawman sees the return of Jo Goodman to western romance after a long stint in the regency era for a while there. And while I have loved all her regencies I have to say I was more than excited to see her return to the Wild West, and Jo as always didn’t disappoint! Rachel Bailey is a lady with a very mysterious and haunting past that she has tried desperately to put behind her. She has given up everything in her past to protect those that she loves and moved to small mining community of Reidsville, Colorado where she knows no one and better yet no one knows her. As the town seamstress she has eked out a very solitary and comfortable existence for herself. But unfortunately for Rachel as we all know the past seems to never want to stay hidden and once her demons resurface her quiet life is turned into anything but quiet or comfortable.

From the first time Sherriff Wyatt Cooper laid eyes on Rachel Bailey he thought watching her as a “pure pleasure”. Everything about the prim and proper and yes irritatingly secretive Rachel Bailey is enticing. However Rachel isn’t such a mystery woman to Wyatt as he knows way more about the seamstress than she could ever imagine. When circumstances forces them into a reluctant partnership ( and a marriage of convenience) that could save the town neither of them is quiet sure what the outcome will be. They each have their scars from the past. But as outside forces continue to push the two of them together, the most unlikely of things occurs… something that Wyatt and Rachel neither knew they wanted, but could be the thing that brings life back to both of their scarred existences…love.

Can the fragile bonds that they have begun to slowly build between them stand against the coming horrors of the past that resurface and threaten to tear them and the entire town apart? It will take cunning, courage, and a little luck for them to survive when the man that ruined Rachel’s life comes to town wanting to take over more than just Reidsville and it’s mine…he wants Rachel back for himself.

If you love a great rich read you need look no further than a Jo Goodman book. I have long been a fan of her writing, and every time I read a new book it reaffirms why I think that way. Jo has a way of creating such vivid and real characters and settings that you feel immersed in their lives and a part of their community. There are very few writers who can get under the skin of their readers, but Ms. Goodman is a master at it! Long after you read the last line you long for more and can’t wait to read the next book to revisit the new friends you feel you have meet in the pages of her books. I am most assuredly looking forward to seeing the good people of Reidsville Colorado again! If you love Jo’s books you certainly are going to love her return to the west but if you haven’t given her books a try yet you should pick this one up and give yourself a true treat indeed!

Rachel Bailey may seem like just a beautiful newcomer to most of Reidsville, Colorado, but Sheriff Wyatt Cooper knows she's much more. Through a twist of fate, Rachel is the inheritor of a very valuable commodity: control of the railway that keeps the isolated mining town connected to the world. That is, she will be, if she agrees to the surprising stipulation in her benefactor's will-that she marry Wyatt.

Rachel has no choice: refusing the marriage could put all of Reidsville in the hands of an outsider, and not just any outsider but the cruel tyrant she has come here to escape. Yet living with Wyatt will be her greatest challenge. For he has a tempting way about him that makes Rachel forget theirs is a marriage in name only- until her frightening past shows up to remind them exactly how much they have at stake…

Book Review: Carnal Gift by Pamela Clare

Book 2 in the Blakewell/Kenleigh Series

Want to take a trip to the beautiful emerald isle and be whisked away by a love? Pamela Clare is a master storyteller - she captures your imagination and your emotions from the very start. Brighid is a poor Irish maiden that is hurled into a world of danger and debauchery by a diabolical and tyrannical landlord, who makes her a gift to his best friend in every sense of the word. Brigihid is horrified to learn that she must give up the one thing in her life she does possess (her virginity) to a stranger to save the life of not only herself but her family as well.

Jamie Blakewell is just as shocked to find that his friend Sheff has done such a thing but to save this brave and enchanting young woman he must make his friend believe he has accepted his "gift" in every way. Brighid is saved by the handsome young man and their "act" of feigned passion. But it isn't long before they both realize that they both want much more than just pretended bliss in each other's arms. Both passionate and adventurous you don't want to miss out on this wonderful romance.

This was the very first book that I had read by Pamela Clare but it made me rush out and buy all her other ones. And she is now one of my all time favorite authors. Though this is part of a series you can read it as a stand alone without any problem. I truly was sorry to see this one end and I can safely say it is the best historical romance set in Ireland that I have ever picked up.

"I expect you to show my friend just how grateful you are. Your willingness is everything."

With those harsh words, the hated Sasanach earl decided Bríghid's fate: Her body and her virginity were to be offered up to a stranger in exchange for her brother's life. Possessing nothing but her innocence and her fierce Irish pride, she had no choice but to comply.

But the handsome man she faced in the darkened bedchamber was not at all the monster she expected. His green eyes seemed to see inside her. His tender touch calmed her fears while he swore he would protect her by merely pretending to claim her. And as the long hours of the night passed by, as her senses ignited at the heat of their naked flesh, she made a startling discovery: Sometimes the line between hate and love can be dangerously thin.

Book Review: Web of Love by Mary Balogh

Book 2 in the Web Trilogy

Web of love is a reprint of one of Mary Balogh's earlier novels. This is the second in the Web series that started with The Gilded Web. I really enjoyed this book as with all of Ms. Balogh's novels the characters are very believable and flushed out and you come to care for them very easily.

This novel is about the second Eden man Lieutenant Dominic "Lord" Eden. When his best friend is killed and he himself severely wounded at the famous battle of Waterloo, Dominic's life forever changes. He travels severely wounded back to tell his friend's wife that his friend and her dear husband were killed. She nurses him back to health and the two quickly fall in love. But the guilt of that love coming so close on the heels of Ellen Simpson's being widowed (she was deeply in love with her husband) threatens to keep the two apart forever.

Rich in atmosphere and great supporting characters as well this is a novel that I would highly recommend to anyone that likes a good Regency romance. And with it's being set partly in Brussels and then at the battlefields including Waterloo it is a refreshing change of place than most regency based novels (though of course they do travel back to England for the last half of the book.)

Even though this is the second book in this series it can easily be enjoyed as a stand alone as I myself had not read the first book in the series but the author does a wonderful job of informing you of any parts you might need to know from it so it can be read as a part of a series or as a book to itself as well. I know I will be looking forward to reading the other books in this series now as I'm looking very forward to seeing what happens with Dominic's twin sister Lady Madeline in the third book.

He’d served with her husband on the battlefield—and secretly desired her for years. Yet for Dominic, Lieutenant Lord Eden, Ellen Simpson has remained tantalizingly out of reach—until she is widowed by the war. Suddenly pursued by the dangerously handsome nobleman, Ellen is stunned by the depth of attraction he arouses in her. Soon their friendship flames into something deeper…and as scandal ignites, marriage seems the only solution. But Ellen has a secret—one she can share with no one—that prevents her from fully opening her heart to Dominic. Until he devises his own plan for the ultimate consummation of their passion—and the woman he is determined to possess at any cost…

Book Review: A Christmas Ball

You are cordially invited to Lord and Lady Hartwell’s festive “Christmas Ball” by Best selling author Jennifer Ashley, Emily Bryan, and Alissa Johnson. This ball is sure to be the toast of the Ton as all of the main characters (some of whom are not who they seem and didn’t have an invite) are sure to excite and titillate with their unique and sensuous escapades! And believe me when I tell you that you will be most glad that they did!

The book starts off with Emily Bryan’s “My Lady Below Stairs”. It’s the story of Jane Tate the bastard daughter of Lord Somerville but as such she has not had the charmed life of his other daughter Lady Sybil, but has lived the life of a lowly scullery maid. But fate has come to right many wrongs this Christmas as Jane finds herself pulled into the role of imitating her Lady sister (Jane and Sybil have always looked very similar and with the right clothing and manners she’s a dead ringer) when Sybil unceremoniously runs off with a painter on the eve of her betrothal to Lord Eddleton. But Jane’s real love interest the stable hand Ian Michael MacGregor will not stand idly by and watch Jane be horns- waggled into the elaborate plot that might very well take her from his arms forever. Will Jane finally find herself living in the role of Lady Somerville or will she be found out for the serving maid she truly is. And who will she end up with Ian or Lord Eddleton believe me you won’t want to miss the answer!

Jennifer Ashley’s “The Longest Night” is a continuation of her Nvengaria series. And for those of you have enjoyed the others books you don’t want to miss this wonderful addition! You will see some of the characters returning from Highlander Ever After this is Mary and Valentin’s story. Mary Cameron has not forgotten the handsome Shapeshifter who stole her heart as she nursed him back to health at her brother’s Castle when Valentin (who was acting as the body guard for her brother’s wife) was shot and left for dead. But with so many miles separating them and no letter from him after his return home she wondered if any of the feelings that were stirred in her heart were really true or just a distraction for an injured man far from home. Now Valentin has returned to England on a mission from Grand Duke Alexander(The Mad, Bad Duke) and he is determined not only to accomplish that mission but also to seek out and win back Mary! Will Mary and Valenin find their happily ever after or will they find the deck to stacked against them in this game of the heart?

Alissa Johnson’s “Traditions” Finds an Earl who has a plan! William Renwick the Earl of Casselbury has always been known as levelheaded and organized to a fault. Therefore when he sets his mind to doing his duty and getting down to finding a wife to produce an heir for his title he knows exactly whom he wants and he means to get her! He wants a woman who is gentle, soft of speech and with an open and big heart. He is sure that that woman is none other but Miss Caroline Meldrin. Little did he know that his soul match might just be not Caroline but her very severe and proper friend Patience Byerly. But surely he couldn’t be that far off in his calculations where Caroline is all light and airy, where Patience with her dark hair pulled back into a severe bun and her spectacles perched on her prim little nose seems to opposite of what he’s looking for. But as events begin to unfold Patience and William both start to understand that when love comes calling sometimes appearances can be more than deceiving and what one isn’t looking for is exactly what one needs.

I thoroughly enjoyed each of these wonderful Regency romances stories. Each author has penned a wonderful romantic tale that you will find wishing were longer, as each could have very well satisfied as its own book. Which means that each of these fine authors have more than done their job in this fantastic anthology.

It is the most anticipated event of the ton: the annual holiday ball at Hartwell House. The music is elegant, the food exquisite, and the guest list absolutely exclusive. Some come looking for love. Some will do almost anything to avoid it. But everyone wants to be there. No matter what their desires, amid the swirling gowns and soft glow of candlelight, magic tends to happen. And one dance, one kiss, one night can shape a new destiny.
