True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Book Review: The Hawk by Monica McCarty

Book 2 in the Highland Guard Series

BLURB: Erik MacSorley is unrivaled on the seas, a brilliant seafarer who has never encountered a wind he could not harness nor a woman he could not win—until he drags a wet, half-naked “nursemaid” out of the waters off the Irish coast. Ellie’s ordinary appearance belies the truth: she is in fact Lady Elyne de Burgh, the spirited daughter of the most powerful noble in Ireland, and a close ally of the English king. Worse, this confounding, fascinating, irresistible woman is determined to prove herself immune to his charms—a challenge he cannot resist.

Her captor may look every inch a powerful, rugged warrior, but Ellie vows it will take more than a twinkle in his blue eyes and a wickedly suggestive caress to impress her. Erik is as wild and untamed as the wind, sweeping away her resistance with a desire that resonates deep within her heart. Still, he is a man driven by loyalty, and she is a woman with secrets that could threaten his mission and jeopardize Bruce’s chance to reclaim his throne. As the battle for king and country sounds across the shores, will Ellie’s love be enough to finally tame the legend known as the Hawk?

REVIEW: This is as you can see above the second in Monica McCarty’s Highland Guard series. It’s Erik MacSorley “Hawk’s” story. Erik who we met in the first book is the very charismatic, sarcastic, master of the seas, drop dead - to sexy for his own good Scottish Warrior. Who very much resembles the Norse Viking’s of his ancestors in both appearance and prowess. He has never been without a lass fawning over him for very long no matter where he goes, and he can out man and out sail anyone on the seas. When one of the missions that the guard is on leads to the capture and unavoidable detention of a wee Irish lass Erik never dreamed that this very “ordinary” slip of a woman might just be the one to steal the Viking’s heart for good!

But little does Erik know just who his Ellie really is… she is none other than Lady Elyne De Burgh the daughter of the one of the most powerful men in Ireland, who is also a friend of King Edward. As well as kin to none other than Robert the Bruce himself by marriage! Neither can fight the heat that sizzles between them but Erik thought that she was just like any other lass that he would take his pleasure with her and then she would be out of his blood…but oh how wrong he was. It seems that true love might just have come for the king of the seas in the body of a feisty Irish woman whom he never expected to turn his head for a moment…let alone his heart. But can their new found love weather all the storms ahead of them in the form of divided loyalties, families, and the war that could cost them all their lives?

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series, and I have to admit I even ended up liking it better than The Chief. Erik is a hoot and Ellie with her feisty nature is more than a match for him. The banter and passion between these two really do make for an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable read. I was sad to see this one end that’s how I know when I’ve found a truly great story and that’s exactly what happened here. Do get this one you won’t be sorry! And I guarantee like me you will be out to get the next book in the series as soon as you finish it!!!

*You can also get this one as an Audiobook, which is the version I chose for this one. It was fabulous and although I do prefer a female narrator... I think Robert McNab did a good job and I really enjoyed it.*

Actually I would say this one gets a 4.75 hearts it deserves more than just
a 4 and a half heart rating not quite a 5 but extremely close!!!
