True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks

Directed by: Francis Lawrence

BLURB: The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever.

REVIEW: This is the first part of the two part finale of The Hunger Games series. But thanks to the "brilliant" studio heads (and I say that extremely facetiously) who wanted to milk the last movie for all they possibly could... they split it into two parts to make "two movies" instead of one for the last film. Which was a huge mistake if you asked me.

I know that putting out Mockingjay as one whole movie instead of two would have made for a much longer movie, however they would have avoided many problems, criticisms, and disappointed fans had they left it as one whole movie instead of breaking it up into two parts. Though some people don't like longer movies it has been shown time and time again throughout the years that they can and often are still extremely successful i.e. The Ten Commandments, The Lord of the Rings series, Harry Potter series etc. Though Mockingjay part one is a good film for the most part - in contrast to it’s two previous installments it seems very lacking in action and the best parts of the film happen way to close to the end of the film. Then they leave you once again hanging for months on end before the rest of the story will be shown.

Now I understand why this first part was slower there was a lot of the story to be “setup” before the last part would make sense... but when you do that and you have little to no action hardly and leave all of it until the second part you start to loose part of your audience who wanted the type of story they saw in the first two films of the series (that were very action packed). Some won’t mind it because they understand you need these parts to build up to the explosive and action packed ending, but many (including my husband like most men) like action and when there isn't any their eyes start to glass over and they start to loose interest fast!

So why I understand why it wasn’t as action packed because it is just PART of the last movie - they shot themselves in the foot by doing it this way. Most movie goers especially those who like films such as The Hunger Games want action and adventure not political plots and maneuverings and slow moving set ups - (which no matter how well the actors did) is exactly what Mockingjay Part 1 was. Jennifer Lawrence was stellar as always, as was most of the rest of the cast, and I personally liked the film because I went into it considering that is part 1 of a two part story. But I still did feel a bit let down when it ended even with that knowledge. I felt like it was just starting to really get to the good parts when BAM the end credits started to role. So I am looking much more forward to Mockingjay part 2 and this one left me with a MEHH taste in my mouth overall.

Hollywood big wigs note to you… your fans don’t like having to wait MONTHS for what they have been waiting for and what they are paying to see like was done here! We get it - you want the price of two movies for one. Which is exactly why they did it DUH! But it’s milking your fan-base and also not delivering what they should have gotten which was a great finally to The Hunger Games Series! By doing so you crippled what could have been an outstanding film into just being a mediocre hit because fans want to see it to get the whole story because by now they are already invested in the characters and story. Really not cool and not appreciated as you can tell by the ratings and reviews it has received all over.

I will buy this one eventually (IF the second part is better than this one was to have the whole story) but I’m waiting now (where I wouldn't have if it had been all together) to get it after the other part can be purchased with it. So my verdict on this one rent it if you just can’t wait to see more of the series... but don’t expect as much of this one because if you do you will be disappointed. I suggest waiting to purchase it when it is released as it should have been with part 2 as well.

Brief Violence and surprisingly the language was not bad at ALL on this one. I think this one actually should have been rated PG instead it wasn't that bad to even get the PG-13 Rating in my opinion you see much worse on regular prime time TV these days.
Would have been much better if not split in two parts. You can tell it's building up to something really good but it ends just as it's getting there and leaves you hanging.

One pity kiss not even enough to raise the rating to Sweet lol.
