True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Stand Up Comedy DVD Review: Anjelah Johnson Homecoming

Anjelah Johnson is a comedian that I found first on Netflix. While a bit bored one day my son Stephen who is 16 now wanted to watch something funny so he was flipping through the Netflix channel on our Amazon Prime Box and said "mom is she any good?" I said "I don't know dear I actually have never heard of her before." I told him we could give it a try and if she talked dirty like a lot of the stand ups do now a days we would turn it off and try something else. Well I have to say I am so glad that we gave her a shot because this woman is clean and FUNNY! Yes the two don't have to be mutually exclusive! What a concept huh? Although most people especially Hollywood seems to think they do THEY DON'T and Anjelah proves it here.

She was for several years a Los Angeles Raiders Cheerleader before becoming a stand up comic as she talks about in her routine. And she even shows of some of her moves she's still got it I must say lol. She is also Latino and proud of it and some of her cultural jokes really had us rolling. Our personal favorites were "OH Sorry Dog", The Taco Story" (oms this one was priceless and my personal fave), and "I just got bit by a fish" but there were many more things that had us actually laughing out loud.

No I didn't agree with everything in her act (there is a couple of references to gays) but nothing to gratuitous or I would have turned it off immediately. For the most part it's totally family friendly at least pre-teens and up for sure would be fine and actually get almost all if not all the joke references I think. The only dirty word uttered at all was one, "Hell no" which was used just once and you hear much worse than that all the time on regular TV anymore on an hourly basis sadly pretty much.

My son and I now actually use some of the catch phrases from this one from time to time around the house LOL. We will go OH SORRY DOG or You Scairt me huh? Watch it and you will find yourself doing the same thing! As well as getting in some great laughs. And lets be honest we all need more laughter in our lives...especially now in these stressful times.

We really enjoyed watching this one together with my son and have actually seen it several times since because he wanted to watch it again. And I am sure we will see it again some time in the future too. So if you are in the mood for some great comedy that you don't feel like you have to wash your ears out after you watch it give her a try. We really liked it. :)

But had it been rated I would say it would be no more than PG she's very clean!

It's also available on Netflix as well if you have a subscription
to their streaming service.

Mini-Series Review: New Worlds

Starring:
Jamie Dornan, Freya Mavor, Jeremy Northam

Directed by: Charles Martin

BLURB: A ruthless king smashes opponents with an iron fist. Forbidden love blooms between an outlaw and a lady. And an untamed frontier simmers with intrigue, greed, and murder. New Worlds follows the lives of four young people caught in the 1680s clash between England's autocratic King Charles II (Jeremy Northam, The Tudors) and rebels fighting for freedom and reform.

In England, rebel Abe (Jamie Dornan, Fifty Shades of Grey, The Fall) sparks a secret affair with the aristocratic Beth (Freya Mavor, Skins) and enlists her help to stoke opposition to the king. In Massachusetts, Ned Hawkins (Joe Dempsie, Game of Thrones), the son of a land baron, falls for plucky frontierswoman Hope (Alice Englert, Beautiful Creatures), but their love affair is swept up by conflicts between Indians, ruthless settlers, and agents of the crown.

This four-part miniseries sets political intrigue, action-packed adventure, and passionate romance against the historical backdrop of the Restoration, all brought to life in stunning location shoots and rich cinematography.

REVIEW: I'm a huge fan of historical dramas and BBC made miniseries and movies. So when I heard about this one I had to try it! Well this is one time that I have to say BBC let me down. The story I found out later was actually the sequel of an earlier series the entitled The Devil's Whore. But you don't have to have seen that one for this one to make sense it's just if you had watched that one you would have more back story to several of the characters in New World's who are now the parents of several of the main characters in this one.

Charles the second is on the English throne and as anyone who is familiar with history knows that this point in time was a whirlwind of many different troubles and intrigues including the growing English Colonies in "The New World" later to become America. The aristocrats are still making life miserable for those less well of who they still think of as peasants even though the Restoration and more modern ways of thinking and politics are underway. The lower classes struggle to make ends meet and are still suffering with the best hunting grounds belonging to the crown and "poaching" is considered a capital offense. So many are taking their chances and heading off to the New World in search of more freedoms and hopefully a more prosperous and easier way of life.

While I liked parts of the series there was just something that always seemed to be missing. They would build up to something but then it seemed to just fall flat and not get finished. And the ending left a LOT to be desired in my humble opinion. It seemed extremely rushed and like they might have planned for more episodes then decided not to and just ended it abruptly and it showed majorly. If that was not then case then the series writers really stunk at their jobs and completely dropped the ball because after it was over I found myself wishing to have spent the hours I watched this on reading or watching something else. Bottom line for this one it started out with a lot of potential then thoroughly went to pot by the end. So skip this one and watch another of the good BBC historical series that are out there like Poldark and Lark Rise to Candleford (two of my personal faves)!

Outlander Craigh na Dun Hand Sculpted Statue OAK Celtic Stone Circle FOR SALE

I have personally been a fan of Outlander for over 17 years and I have always wanted a Craigh na Dun sculpture to add to my own personal Outlander collection. So I finally decided I was tired of waiting for one to become available, and that I was going to make one myself. And I LOVED how it turned out. It now is proudly displayed on my entertainment center. And I got to thinking that others might like to have one for their collections too! So I am going to be offering these one of a kind hand sculpted statues of the stone circle of Craigh na Dun for a limited time.

These photos actually don't do them justice my camera just stinks!!!

Now you too can have your very own Outlander Craigh na Dun the stone circle!!! *sorry time travel not possible with these darn it... I know bummer* But they look awesome on your bookcase, desktop, curio cabinet where ever you would like to display them. And they compliment any Outlander collection to a T!

They are based on the best selling novels by Diana Gabaldon and the wonderful series from Starz. Craigh na Dun is where the heroine Claire Randall is first transported through time back to 1743 (where she meets the handsome and to die for Jamie Fraser) when she touches one of the ancient stones in the circle.

Each statue is as I said ONE OF A KIND as they are all hand sculpted by me. They are meticulously hand painted and detailed as well so no two are exactly a like and each has it's own special charm.

Every sculpture is made from all natural clay and then hand painted and detailed with foliage and flocking to give it that natural and earthy feeling.

The sculpture measures approximately 6 inches long by 5 inches wide and approx. 5 inches tall. So they fit perfectly to display on any desktop or in any curio cabinet etc.

*** The measurements above are just for the ones I already have made currently. I also will take orders for larger sizes if you prefer, or smaller ones too. They can be customized to your specifications just message me with the details of what you would like and I will custom make your sculpture to the size you want. ***

Each statue is just $50.00 plus shipping and handling. Every sculpture takes hours of work to complete over several days time, so this is a very decent price for the work and love that goes into each one.

They make a fabulous addition for any Outlander fan to their own collection, or as a great gift for any one who is a fan of the books / and or TV Series.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

**Shipping is for each sculpture is $6.00  because the item is slightly fragile and because of this I include extra packing and insurance to protect your purchase, as well as myself should anything get broken during shipping. So rest assured your sculpture will be very well packaged and your purchase will be insured and covered against any problems during shipping!  :) **

I accept payments via PAYPAL and payments must clear before the sculptures will be shipped. THANKS!

Book Review: Ross Poldark by Winston Graham

Book 1 in the Poldark Series

BLURB: The enthralling first book behind Poldark, the major new TV series from Masterpiece on PBS...

In the first novel in Winston Graham's hit series, a weary Ross Poldark returns to England from war, looking forward to a joyful homecoming with his beloved Elizabeth. But instead he discovers his father has died, his home is overrun by livestock and drunken servants, and Elizabeth-believing Ross to be dead-is now engaged to his cousin. Ross has no choice but to start his life anew.
Thus begins the Poldark series, a heartwarming, gripping saga set in the windswept landscape of Cornwall. With an unforgettable cast of characters that spans loves, lives, and generations, this extraordinary masterwork from Winston Graham is a story you will never forget.

REVIEW:  I recently watched the New BBC/ Masterpiece theater series verion of Poldark starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson and absolutely just fell in love with the series! So naturally when I read that it was based on a series of books I had to read them! So I went and bought a copy of the first novel titled ROSS POLDARK and set right into it.

There are 12 books in all in the series and they all revolve around the Poldark family (hence the name). In book one we meet Ross who is serving in the British Army in the midst of the Revolutionary war in 1783. Ross isn’t your typical Brit most especially not the normal one serving in her Majesty’s army during the war. He does not believe that England is right in it’s confrontation with the American’s, he believes and states that they are fighting on the wrong side is the reason they are losing the war. Ross only entered the army in fact to avoid the hangman’s noose when he was caught brawling and poaching. When given a decision between voluntarily joining the army or hoofing it to meat the hangman Ross wisely chose the lesser of the two evils and chose the army. He is however severely wounded and he returns to England a much changed man in more ways than one. He states to his friends that he grew up while in the army, and he also is still nursing a badly wounded leg and now has a very noticeable scar running down the side of his face.

However much to Ross’s dismay his homecoming to windswept Cornwall becomes anything but the happy one that he had hoped for. He not only finds out that his father died several months before and he received no word of it until it was mentioned by another passenger on the coach ride on his way home. Everyone thought Ross himself was dead and are surprised by his sudden arrival after so long, not least of which is the woman whom Ross loved and hoped to marry upon his return Elizabeth…who he finds out now is about to marry his cousin Francis! His finances are in ruins his fathers estate Nampara is in extreme disrepair it seems as if nothing is going right for Ross at all. But through hard work and determination Ross rebuilds his life and his home and even reopens the Tin/Copper mine that his father owned “Wheal Leisure” which he hopes will not only help him make a living but also is a God send to the out of work miners in the district as well! What all will be in store for Ross now? Will Wheal Leisure be his saving grace? Will he find true love again with an unexpected young miner’s daughter? Or will fortune continue to frown upon him and the loss of his first love continue to haunt him?

Dramatic, funny, heart warming and heart rending in turns Poldark is truly a wonderful novel. And one that I can see myself revisiting again and again (as well as the TV Series!)

Believe me you need to get this one and find out for yourself. As I said I was first introduced to the books through the series on BBC which was nothing short of AMAZING! I absolute feel completely in love with it and the main stars they were nothing short of stunning in it. I can’t wait until it releases on Blu-ray and DVD in July but you can catch it for yourself starting June the 21st on PBS as it will be showing there on Masterpiece Theater! DON’T MISS IT. It is truly fabulous I loved it as much or more than Outlander the series which I you know me you know I head over heels for. So that should tell you how great Poldark is. The book is great as well and you do get a bit more info than you do in the series naturally as there is more time to flush out certain story lines and there are a few minor changes but nothing major at all. All in all I thought that the series was extremely faithful to the books so far and I can’t wait for season two which is set to start filming in September!!! I have already pre-ordered my copy of Series 1 when it comes out on Bluray and DVD in July!

I also couldn’t wait to jump right into the second book in the series Demelza which I am reading now, and will be reviewing very soon when I finish it! It's really good so far too!!!

Not only all this but for those of you who like clean reading and viewing Poldark is! No bad language to speak of and no explicit sex scenes or nudity either. So the whole family can read or watch!

GET POLDARK!!! And be sure to watch the series!!! You won’t be sorry I you love a good historical fiction / historical romance.

Good intentions still don't make the grade

I had good intentions to get some more reviews done but I must apologize as real life yet again had other ideas than I did yesterday and today. These have been my comforts that got me through...

My cat, my hot water bottle, the bed...and a book too of course!

I had major cramps and a massive headache all day. God willing I will feel better later today and can get the reviews done and up then I hope. Sorry again! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Crickets the last few days and Update

Sorry that I have been so quite the last few days guys. (Yes I said guys meaning everyone men and women which is NOT meant to be sexiest or derogatory in anyway liberal feminist hacks!!!) Sorry read about that today and it just ticked me off! How anal and just stupid to try to say a phrase like that is sexist and demeaning UGH. I'm so sick of their PC stupidity it boggles the mind!

Anyway what I was saying was GUYS... that I'm sorry I haven't updated the blog in a few days. I have been super busy with work this past week and just was to wiped when I got done to do any blog posts. I shall endevour to do better! I will be back soon though...God willing... OH you all are in for a true treat with the new series coming to Masterpiece Theater and starts June 21st! Poldark is simply AMAZING! I loved it and can't say enough good things about it honestly. This one comes in a very close second to Outlander for me which is saying a LOT if you know me and how much I love Outlander! It is truly a stellar series with outstanding actors and actresses especially the leads Aidan turner and Eleanor Tomlinson they are nothing short of stellar!  It's a great historical romance that will just steal your heart. I know it did mine! And I'm already knee deep in book two of the series now Demelza.

Movie Review: The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. Chris Hemsworth

Directed by: Joss Whedon

BLURB: When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's Mightiest Heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans.

REVIEW: The Avengers return here for their second movie in the Age of Ultron. I knew eventually we would make it to the theaters to see this one and we did this last weekend for my son’s birthday. The hubby, son, and I have actually all been wanting to go and see this one for a while, but we wanted to wait until it wouldn’t be so crowded. We finally had the money and time to go and since my son said mom can we go see Ultron as part of my birthday well how could I refuse!

Why don’t we go to the movies more often? Because it’s over thirty dollars to see a movie for just us three that’s why… and this one has been out several weeks and still that high UGH. But I have to say after all was said and done it was worth it.

So the gang is all back for the second teaming up of the Avengers - Cap, Ironman, Thor, The Hulk, and yes Hawkeye and Black Widow are in tow again too. This time out the team is finally working together much better! There is still the occasional disagreement and squabble but not the open hostility to each other as in the first movie so much anymore. They all seem to have finally put their differences aside for the most part (well at least for the first part of the movie you will see why there was more friction in the end in a min.) and things are going pretty good for the team! They defeated their enemies and have finally recovered Loki’s staff ta boot! So all is hunky dory… UNTIL…Tony Stark and Bruce Banner decide to pittle around with the staff (which in fact holds an infinity stone) and to utilize some of the power within it to bring to life a massive and artificially intelligent protection program that they think will protect the world from alien invasion and earthly foes alike. They also think that it will be so good at defending and protecting the world that the Avengers won’t be needed at least as much anymore. Who wouldn't want more time off huh and what could possibly go wrong with that idea right? Yeah duhhhhhh… for two guys who are suppose to be geniuses they sure goof stuff up royally a LOT!

So they create Ultron and immediately Ultron has a mind of his own but it’s not the one they wanted him to have unfortunately for all. Instead of creating a great protector for mankind they pretty much created an almost indestructible robot that is set on destroying all life on the planet. OOPSY.

So it’s mount up to save the day again everyone because we put the world in mortal danger by messing around with stuff we shouldn’t have been tinkering with yet again. SORRY!

Seriously they need to just tell Stark and Banner that if they ever try to TINKER again they will put them both in Gitmo. LOL. Dude just can’t seem to get anything right accept his own suit of armor and Banner oh gee I don't even have the time for that one.

What ensues next is the team going to battle with Ultron and his legion of robots (yes he’s just as smart as Stark and quickly amasses his own army of robots to combat the Avengers and pretty much all of mankind). The evil padawan has learned a lot it seems from his well meaning but mistake prone creator. Run Tony run, there are no strings on him!

The team along the way is joined by two new and powerful mutants Quicksilver and is twin sister the Scarlett Witch. They were fighting against the Avengers at the first of the movie, but they quickly see who the real bad guys are and that if they don’t lend a hand they could die along with everyone else on earth. So they switch from bad to good and fight along side the heroes to defeat Ultron and his robot minions and save earth and all life as we know it.

You also see the return of Maria Hill and Nick Fury in this one, which I really enjoyed. Especially Maria she cracks me up! I really like that character and hope to see more of her in the movies and maybe on Agents of Shield the series too (which I also watch regularly and enjoy). She has guest starred on there a couple of times already and I would love to see her on there more regularly along side Colson.

The whole romance thingy with Black Widow and The Hulk is just ugh...it’s very awkward and a bit sad and creepy too. But what do you expect from Scarlett Johansson - Planned Parenthood’s little rallier and poster baby is just a weirdo to start with so this shouldn’t have surprised anyone at all. I so wish they would get someone else to play Black Widow and The Hulk! I personally can’t stand Scarlett J. or Mark Ruffalo - but I do like the characters they play in these movies and wish they had someone else (just about anyone else) to filling their shoes. I would enjoy the Avengers movies TONS more if they did. I just loath Scarlett...and Mark’s not far behind. RECAST please!!!

LOVED both of the Chris’s returns in this one as Cap and Thor. HUBBA, HUBBA they are both looking as hot - if not hotter - than ever. And Robert Downey Jr. once again gives a fine and yes lovably comic performance as Tony - he’s just awesome isn’t he? He never fails to have me laughing by the end of the movie, love that guy.

Final verdict really did enjoy it and so did my husband and son. They actually liked it even more than me. They are still talking about parts of it days later and still nerding on the special effects...which were impressive I will admit. So if you liked the other Avenger movie or the other stand alone Marvel superhero movies you should really enjoy this one too. It’s an action packed, at times laugh out loud funny,  joy ride the whole family can enjoy together.

We will be buying this one when it hits the shelves on Blu-ray. I think that about says it all!

For some mild language, action sequences, and violence

Happy Birthday to my Baby!

All right he's not a baby anymore but he will always be my baby no matter what. Where has the time flown??? My handsome son turns 16 today! SNIFF... I just can't believe he is so grown up already. It seems like just yesterday I had him.

Here he was on his first birthday (below) and just a few days ago with his Dad (below the other one). It still seems like he should be like the little baby in the first photo 4 pounds and a few ounces he was a preemie, but there is now a young man in his place.

I am so proud of my son and the man he is becoming. And I love him more than I can ever say. May God bless you and keep you all the days of your life Stephen. Though this Mama is both a bit sad to see the baby years and youth years passed now, I am so proud of you and thankful for the good man you are turning into before my eyes daily. I LOVE YOU! And A VERY Happy Birthday and many, many, many more my son!

Movie Review: Charlie St. Cloud

Starring: Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Charlie Tahan

Directed by: Burr Steers

BLURB:  Charlie St. Cloud is based on Ben Sherwood's best-selling novel, The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. Zac Efron stars as Charlie St. Cloud, a small-town hero and an accomplished sailor who has it all: the adoration of his mother and younger brother, and a Stanford scholarship. His bright future is cut short when tragedy strikes, taking his dreams with it. Now Charlie is torn between honoring a promise he made years ago and pursuing his newfound love with a former high-school classmate. Based on the acclaimed bestseller, comes a story of hope, second chances and the trans-formative power of love, also starring Ray Liotta and Academy Award winner Kim Basinger.

REVIEW: If you like movies with a hint of whimsy and the paranormal you just might like this one. I did! Zac Efron plays the title character Charlie St. Cloud who after a horrific car crash kills his younger brother he pretty much gives up on his own dreams and isolates himself from almost everyone out of guilt over the event. He also takes a job being the groundsman at the local cemetery. Charlie also has a secret that no one else knows about everyday he sees and interacts with his dead brother in a clearing near the cemetery. They spend hours together and it has helped Charlie getting over his brother’s death but it is also holding him back tremendously in moving on with his own life.

Things begin to change for Charlie when he meets a warm and beautiful young lady named Tess who also just happens to be heavily involved in boating and racing sail boats…which Charlie loved and use to do himself (with great success) before his brother’s death. But after the accident Charlie also gave that up even though it had been like air to him before Sam’s death. Tess and Charlie begin to see more and more of each other and things slowly begin to change for Charlie he once again is being pulled more toward the land of the living again but he struggles still with feeling guilty for spending more time with Tess and less time with his brother.

Charlie soon realizes that he is in love with Tess and she with him…then the unthinkable happens. Tess while out on a boating run disappears amid a bad storm. Will Charlie be able to find her or has Tess been ripped away from Charlie as well?

I personally loved this little movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought that it was done and well acted - even though I know it was panned by many critics. Don’t let that stop you from renting this one or even buying it straight out it’s very cheap to get even on Bluray now since it’s been out a while. I did buy it on Bluray and I’m gonna keep it for my collection it’s on my keeper shelf now. Again if you like a good feel good movie with a touch of romance and the paranormal, which I do, then this one should be right up your alley!

Rated PG-13 for language including some sexual references, an intense accident scene and some sensuality

Some kissing and an implied sexual scene but nothing explicit at all.
