True Love

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Movie Review: Love Begins

Starring: Wes Brown, Julie Mond, Abigail Mavity

Directed by: David S. Cass Sr.

BLURB:  After their father’s passing, Ellen Barlow (Julie Mond) and her sister Cassie struggle to maintain the family farm in Anderson’s Corner. When Clark Davis (Wes Brown) finds trouble in town on his way to California, Ellen agrees tohire him at the farm to work off his debts. Before long, Clark and Ellen unexpectedly develop feelings for each other. Ultimately, a turn of events inspires the pair to begin a legacy of love and faith together in this heartwarming family drama.

REVIEW: Love Begins is the first of two prequels to the Love Comes Softly movie series. This is the story of how it all began! Clark Davis is in a mess of trouble. He was on his way to the California gold fields but is sidetracked in a big way when defending his hot headed friend in a fist fight at the local cafe lands them both in the town jail, with some hefty fines hanging over their heads to boot for the damages.

When his no account friend makes a break for it Clark refuses to go along and instead opts to stay and face the music and repay what the Sheriff says he owes for the damages to the cafe owner Milly. So the next morning the Sheriff finds Clark sitting quietly in his cell with the door wide open and his "friend" no where to be seen. The Sheriff sees that there is much more to Clark Davis's character than meets the eye by his actions, and when Clark asks him if there is any way that he might be able to find him work to where he could earn the money to pay off the damages to Milly and fines the Sheriff says he just might know the perfect way to solve two problems at once.

The other problem is Ellen and Cassie Barlow and their farm that has been in desperate need of a good farm hand to help get things back on track after their father's recent death left the two women alone to do all the work by themselves. Some of the work they need done has required a man's strength and knowledge that the girls don't have. But when the Sheriff rides up with Clark offering to have him work as their farm hand to repay his debt to Milly and the town Ellen isn't thrilled with the idea at all... at least at first. Cassie takes right to the handsome stranger but Ellen is much more cautious especially after Clark's run in with the law and all. But as the days slowly pass Ellen and Clark start to warm to one another and it isn't long before the two start to see the goodness, strength, and honor in the other.

I truly loved this movie my favorite of the series is and will always be the "first" movie Love Comes Softly but like many others I did wonder about Clark's first marriage and this movie along with the second prequel fills in all the gaps and makes the series all the richer I believe in doing so. Wes Brown and Julie Mond are both outstanding in their roles I just loved them both. And Wes is none to hard on the eyes either lol! Many will enjoy seeing Nancy Mckeon from The Facts of Life fame in the role of the widowed cafe owner Milly as well.

This is just an all around great movie and one that the entire family can enjoy together! I highly recommend it to one and all!

The movie is not officially rated but if it was it would be G to PG at the most (PG if people are so anal that they would count a fist fight to knock it out of a G rating) it is family friendly!

Totally clean the whole family can enjoy this one together! Nothing but a couple of chaste kisses.

Review: Sam's Creed by Sarah McCarty

Book 2 in the Hell’s Eight Series

BLURB: Known for making up his own rules of right and wrong, Texas Ranger Sam "Wildcard" MacGregor takes what he wants when he wants it, especially when it comes to women. But seduction is the last thing on his mind when he stumbles across a beauty crouching in fear beside a burned-out wagon.

Isabella may look feminine and unassuming, but she's hell in a bodice with gunslinging skills to match any man's. The woman the townsfolk call "cursed" is hiding secrets too dangerous to face alone. Luckily, she sees in Sam what he can barely glimpse in himself—a virtuous man in a hard country bent on breaking him. A man who, under it all, craves a passionate woman willing to risk everything...

REVIEW: The second book in the Hell's Eight series didn't live up to the great start of the first book Caine's Reckoning in my opinion by a long shot. The difference here was Sam while he is a good man in many ways he is also a jerk in some ways too I thought and he honestly got on my nerves a few times throughout the story.

When Sam comes a massacre and one lone alive woman among the burned out wagons he had no idea how much his life was about to change thanks to the beautiful Spanish spitfire. Isabella Montoya is on the run from a very powerful and blood thirsty man named Tejala. He is known far and wide for his brutality, derangement, and for always getting what he wants, and Tejala is determined to have Isabella for his bride. Isabella is just as determined that she will never be his no matter what she has to do to get away from him.

Sam ever the hero takes the beautiful young woman under his protection. But as they travel along the trail together the feelings between them start to grow. Isabella comes up with a plan...Tejala wanted her for his virgin bride even knowing that he would have to rape her to ever have her. Isabella seeing what an honorable and in his own way very caring and kind man Sam is sets out to seduce Sam into taking her virginity. She wants to have her virginity be given to the man of her choosing, instead of loosing it to the filthy rape of Tejala.

Sam refuses to take her innocence for a long time even though it just about kills him and takes every ounce of his resistance to keep from doing so. But the fire that sparks between them can't be denied for long. When the passion between them finally does win out they both know that they have irrecoverably lost their hearts to the other.

But when Tejala and his vicious band of outlaw thugs catch up to them and kidnap Bella can Sam find her and save her in time or will Tejala take her as he wishes and then kill her before Sam can get to them?

This was a pretty good book again Sarah McCarty shows she is a great author and can spin a tale guaranteed to raise the pulse as well as keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. However this one just did NOT live up to the greatness of the first novel in the series to me in so many ways. I was rather disappointed in that. Although I know from Sam's story that he is haunted by many tragic events in his past it has made him VERY cynical to the point he actually got on my nerves several times through out the book. I actually ended up liking Bella's character much more than Sam's overall.

So final verdict on this one it's an ok read and I am glad I did to get a little more insight into the rest of the Hell's Eight gang. Though I was really disappointed by it I wasn't wanting my money back from the book... but I don't think I will be reading it again either. Though I do plan on reading the other books in the series...I AM very interested to read more about Tucker and Sally Mae who were introduced in this novel, and who I did like, and am looking very forward to reading their story! It sounds much more intriguing and interesting than Sam's Creed turned out to be.

This one again lost some major points for the strong language used. This one was actually worse than the first book in that respect (I can not STAND to hear or read "GD" and that did make an appearance quite a few times) along with many other vulgar and crude words which really were not necessary to the story at all. Plus Sam also cursed at God once which ticked me off thoroughly! I honestly almost stopped reading it right there but ultimately I wanted to see what happened to Bella and the book was almost over at the time so I did finish the book to see how it all turned out.  There is also again a bit of anal sex which I personally don't like either.

This one is scorching hot! So definitely not for the prudish at all.

Review: Caine's Reckoning by Sarah McCarty

Book 1 in the Hell’s Eight Series

BLURB:

Caine Allen is definitely not the marrying kind. But when he rescues a kidnapped woman and returns her to town, his honor and his desire for Desi won't allow him to let her go.

But with a bounty still on her head, first he must keep her alive.

1st edition cover
REVIEW:

I have had this one on my bookshelf for a while now and I don’t know why on earth I waited so long to read it! I really wish I hadn’t waited so long...because this one just moved onto my all time faves list! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I honestly couldn't put it down. I lost sleep and my housework took a back seat because of this one big time.

This is the first book in the Hell’s Eight Series and it’s Caine and Desi’s story. Hell’s Eight is a group of men (and a few women) who once were on the wrong side of the law but are now serving as Texas Rangers and they have also carved out a large ranch (Hell’s Eight Ranch hence the name of the series) and a big reputation as hard, tough as nails, deadly and honorable men. When the gang is sent out in search of several women who were kidnapped by a group of ruthless outlaws Caine Allen never thought that he would be rescuing the woman who would quickly become his wife.

Desi is a wildcat of a woman who has much more heart and grit than any other woman Cain has ever seen. She started working her way into his heart the first time he sees her and she is grounding her ground against the outlaws who kidnapped her all by herself with nothing more than her hands and a ton of determination.

Caine, Sam, and Tracker make short work of the desperadoes and rescue the women and look to head back to town, but to Caine’s amazement Desi refuses to go back!

Caine quickly sees by what little he is able to drag out of her and the bruises she has that are much older than anything the outlaws could have inflicted on her, and by how skittish she acts to his touch, that she wasn’t in a good place even before she was kidnapped. And that that is the reason she doesn’t want to go back. Caine will not stand for anyone being abused let alone this beautiful slip of a woman. When he meets her “guardian” when they do get back to town he quickly smells even more of a rat and refuses to turn her back over to the weasel.

Through a world wind of events and to fulfill a promise to the local priest Caine ends up marrying Desi to save her from having to return to her abusive guardian. But Desi doesn’t know if she has met her savior in Caine or just traded one bad situation for another.

It doesn’t take Desi long though to see that the man that she’s married for protection is in fact a kind, honorable, and yes even a gentle man. She never would have thought that the hard as steel cowboy feared by outlaws throughout the territory could listen to her, hold her, and treat her with so much gentleness that even her raw nerves and defenses quickly begin to slip into trust and even…love.

Caine through much patience, care, and understanding soon learns what demons haunt Desi and it’s worse than he ever would have imagined. She was kidnapped first by Comancheros who took her and her sister away from her family. They raped and abused her before she was rescued and then taken in by the townsfolk and then placed under the guardianship of a man that was NO better than the Comancheros. Not only does he repeatedly rape and abuse her himself, but he pimps her out to many other men as well. The nightmare of being literally chained to a bed and repeated raped and beat over the years have definitely left indelible marks on not only Desi’s body but her soul as well. Caine vows that he will wipe all those painful years and other men out of her mind and yes her soul with his body and his love. He is determined to give her the kind of life that this rare and beautiful woman deserves and make all the horror and pain a thing of the distant past.

What follows is a story of trust, desire, and love that should move even the hardest of hearts! I absolutely love Caine and Desi and how their love brings redemption and completion to them both. I was rooting so much for Desi to get her happily ever after, especially with all the horror she had lived through. She is definitely the most tortured heroine that I have ever read about. And though it was hard to read about at times it only made me love and root for her more to see her happy in the end with her sweet and hunky husband.

Again I loved, loved, loved this one it’s as raw and gritty as it is tender and sexy. Sarah McCarty is just a master storyteller that's all there is to it! She knows exactly how to reel you in and engage every single one of your emotions throughout the book. She's truly amazing. This one had me gritting my teeth, fanning myself, crying, and yes even laughing (OMS there is a scene with Desi VS a rooster that is nothing short of hilarious, it had me laughing out loud so much so that my son asked me what was going on.)

While I know this one won’t be for everyone i.e. those who have a problem handling stories about abuse and rape (though let me hasten to say that it does NOT go into much detail on the rape flashbacks... it does say enough that you get a sense of the horror Desi has lived through). And it's not for those who can't take detailed sex scenes...this one is erotic and very steamy for sure. So if you are a bit prudish don't read this one you won't like it. But if you don't mind a great love story that will make your temperature rise then you owe it to yourself to get this one!

It is a great story of redeeming and saving power of trust and love I thought as well as of survival and courage. And I frankly couldn’t wait to dive right into the next book in the series, which I did!!!

Do give this one a shot I think you will be very glad you did! I know I am! As I said this one is now on my keeper/fave shelf.

This one would have got a perfect score if not for some of the language (I can not STAND to hear or read GD and that did make an appearance a few times) also there is a bit of anal sex which I personally don't like either but if not for those two things this one would have got a perfect score from me.

This one is scorching hot! So definitely not for the prudish at all but if you like a great love story that will make your temp rise this one is definitely for you!

Review: Uncharted by Tracey Garvis Graves

Blurb: Anna and T.J.—return in this companion novella to the New York Times bestseller On the Island. When twenty-three-year-old dot-com millionaire Owen Sparks walked away from his charmed life, he had one goal in mind: get as far away as possible from the people who resented his success, or had their hand out for a piece of it. A remote uncharted island halfway around the world seemed like a perfectly logical place to get away from it all. Calia Reed wasn't part of Owen's plans. The beautiful British girl—on holiday in the Maldives with her brother, James—made Owen wonder if getting away from it all might be a lot more enjoyable with a carefree girl who didn't know anything about the life he left behind. But Owen had no idea how much his carefully detailed plans would go awry. Nor did he realize that a decision he made would have such a catastrophic effect on two passengers who boarded a plane in Chicago. And when Owen shows up at Anna and T.J.'s door with an incredible story to tell, everyone involved will learn just how much their lives are intertwined.

Review:  Uncharted is a sequel to the best selling and might I add once again say fabulous On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves.

T.J and Anna do come back for this one and you get to hear more about their story (which I loved). But the main character of this novella is millionaire Owen Sparks. Who is Owen you ask? That is what T.J. and Anna both wonder when he shows up on their doorstep one day out of the blue. They learn quickly just how much they all have in common as Owen begins to tell them his story of his time on the island!

Many of the questions that T.J and Anna had about things they encountered while they were stranded on the island are answered...you will see all the pieces come together for the whole picture about how all the man made items and things that T.J. and Anna discovered on the island got there, you will learn about the dead body they found, and last but certainly not least you will find out more about T.J. and Anna's life as a married couple is going.

And don't count out Owen either, his story is fascinating as well! I was surprised by much of how it all came about really happened. Tracey Garvis Graves proves once again what a talented and gifted storyteller she is with this one and you will probably find yourself like me wishing that this one wasn't just a novella so you could spend more time with Owen, T.J. and Anna.

You do need to read On the Island first on this one for the most enjoyment of series, and believe me YOU WILL enjoy both of these for sure!

So what are you waiting for!!! Go and get this one now order it below and start the adventure!

And if you haven't read On the Island yet get it read it FIRST and enjoy this
awesome series seriously...you won't regret it!!!

Review of Poldark and Outlander Soundtracks

I'm not a huge music buff all right...I am SO not one of those people that feel that have to have music on all the time or something is missing. That's not me and never will be much to my husband's dismay as he is one of those people lol. However recently two soundtracks came out that I had to have and I wanted to share them with you.

First up is the Soundtrack to Poldark

The music on the soundtrack is composed by Anne Dudley and beautifully so. Both stirring and haunting at the same time her score has tons of emotional punch at every turn. There are 20 tracks in all and all are instrumental accept one which incidentally is my favorite - Medhel an Gwyns sung by the very multi-talented Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza in the series. For those of you who have wondered about it YES that is her singing the songs in the series as Demelza! The woman can act and sing like a bird too! I do love the whole soundtrack but I was very disappointed that they didn't include Demelza's Song that she sang at Christmas and left everyone spellbound by (and rightly so) that one is glaringly missing from the soundtrack I have no idea why maybe there was some copyright issue but it was a big disappointment to me that it wasn't included on CD. Truthfully that is the only draw back to this wonderful soundtrack in my opinion. I have listened to it over and over again...it truly is beautiful and I think it is a must have for any Poldark fan! I know I am very happy I bought it.

Track List

1. The Crossroads
2. Medhel an Gwyns
3. The Longest Walk
4. The Bal Maidens
5. An Army Against One Man
6. Theme from Poldark
7. Love of My Life
8. The Blue Dress
10. Liberty or Tyranny
11. Daring to Hope
12. Working the Quillet
13. Truth and Consequence
14. Where the Land Meets the Sea
15. The Carnmore Copper Company
16. Becoming Porcelain
17. A Seam of Ironstone
18. A Blood Red Moon
19. Copper and Tin
 20. Luck of the Devil

(The ONLY reason I'm not giving this one a perfect 5 stars is because they did not include Demelza's song that was a big mistake in my opinion but the rest of the soundtrack is nothing short of wonderful!)

**It's only 10.99 for the CD or 9.99 for digital download (you can also purchase the songs individually from there if you prefer)**

Secondly but certainly not last or least is Volume 1 of the
Outlander Soundtrack

(I say first volume because they have recently released another soundtrack for the second half of the first season but I haven't had the extra money to get it yet. I hope to get it soon and will review it sometime after I do.)

There are 13 tracks at in call composed by the ubber talented Bear McCreary. The songs here span the entire emotional spectrum from happy, to romantic, to sad, and yes very dramatic overtures too. I really do love this soundtrack and have listened to it numerous times since I got it several months ago. I do love Celtic music and Bear McCreary has captured the essence and romance of both the Highlands and the story of Outlander with his moving and beautiful score. It's hard to pick a favorite on this one but I think it would have to be The Wedding that one just gets me every single time! I think it's masterfully done and truly I don't see how he could have improved upon this one it's just simply awesome. This one is a MUST for any Outlander fan for sure!

Track List

1. People Disappear All The Time2. Outlander – The Skye Boat Song (feat. Raya Yarbrough)
3. Dance Of The Druids (feat. Raya Yarbrough)
4. Fallen Through Time
5. Castle Leoch
6. Comin’ Thro’ The Rye
7. The Woman Of Balnain (feat. Gillebrìde MacMillan)
8. Mrs. Fitz
9. The Losing Side Of History
10. Clean Pease Strae
11. The Marriage Contract
12. The Wedding
13. The Veil Of Time

**It's only 8.99 for the CD or 9.49 for digital download (you can also purchase the songs individually from there if you prefer)**
